Across State Lines: Abualnadi Makes Jordanian World Cup Squad

Published

on

The World Cup is almost here as teams that have qualified for the tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the US have been announcing their 26 man rosters for this year’s tournament. And while Kansas City will be hosting games in this year’s tournament there will be another KC tie to the competition. Kansas City native, Mo Abualnadi, was named to Jordan’s roster for their first World Cup. Abualnadi, who is from Overland Park, KS, is a defender who came through the Sporting KC academy and played for the Swope Park Rangers on an academy contract, before attending Notre Dame and Pitt. After college, Abualnadi signed with Sporting KC II where he played a portion of the 2023 season. In that time Abualnadi appeared six times for SKCII and made one appearance for Sporting KC on a short term loan that year as a substitute in KC’s 3-0 win over Tulsa Athletic. Abualnadi and SKCII mutually agreed to terminate his contract and shortly after he signed with Al Hussein in the Jordanian Pro League. He currently plays in Malaysia with Selangor FC. Abualnadi becomes the second Kansas City native to play in the World Cup, joining Matt Besler.

Elsewhere, the USL Super League closed out its second season with Lexington SC topping the Carolina Accent 3-1 in extra time to take the championship. Both goals in extra time for Lexington were scored by former KC Current players as Regan Steigleder scored what proved to be the winner and Addie McCain scored an insurance goal. End of season awards were also handed out, and for the second straight year, former Current goalkeeper, Hope Hisey won the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year award.

Here is the rest of this week’s update.
