The Kansas City Comets have one hand on the I-70 Series Cup after their weekend win over the St. Louis Ambush 2-2 (1-0) in a shootout. The win moves Kansas City to 3-0 on the season against the Ambush, with three games left in the series. One more win clinches the season series. The Comets jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals by Ignacio Flores and Michael Lenis before the Ambush game back to tie it in the fourth quarter and force overtime. With no goals in overtime the game went to a shootout. It was the Comets’ first shootout since losing 2-1 to the Tacoma Stars in the 2023/2024 season. A goal by Lucas Sousa in the shootout was the only goal KC needed as Phillip Ejimadu shut the Ambush out on their three attempts to win 1-0. It was the Comets first win in a shootout since the 2014/2015 season 2-1 over the Milwaukee Wave after a 7-7 score line in regulation. It moves KC to 2-2 all time in shootouts.
