The KC Current announced the re-signing of NWSL veteran Nichelle Prince, who had been on the free agency list – a move that may come as a surprise to some, given the roster depth. However, her speed and composure when charging defenders make her valuable, and when healthy, she could easily slot in at any front position. With no major international tournaments this upcoming year, this is the prime opportunity to get back to being the dominant player she was before her injury at the end of 2022 and have a fully healthy season. The Current clearly sees her as a key part of this team as shown in marketing both locally and internationally, which have played a significant role in continuing her career in Kansas City.

“The standard at this club is every player’s dream,” said Prince. “The players, the facilities, the resources, and the amazing KC Baby community that has embraced me, have made it an easy decision to want to continue my career here. I couldn’t have dreamt of a more enjoyable season and I’m so grateful to have landed in KC and to have at least two more years with this team!”

Prince faced limited playing time at the start of the 2024 season due to a calf injury sustained with Canada at the CONCACAF W Gold Cup in the off-season and focused on recovery in the lead-up to the Olympics. She found her stride with the team when she returned after the international break, playing in all 12 NWSL games and starting in 9. Prince added her name to the Current’s extensive list of goal scorers, netting two goals and two assists.

Her contract is through the 2026 season, with a mutual option for 2027. The Current roster has 17 players under contract.
