For the Glory KC is back with the 33rd episode of the show!

On this week’s episode, Sporting Kansas City have an up and down week. They were eliminated from the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup when their backups failed to defeat the Houston Dynamo. But they ended the week strong with their first home win of the season against Minnesota United in a blowout (that felt weird to type).

We also talked about the rumor that Alan Pulido could be sold to Chivas (Liga MX) and the article from Sam McDowell in the KC Star interviewing one of Sporting KC’s owners, Mike Illig. Plus, we discuss Peter Vermes’ comments to both the KC Cauldron and to the media after the game, including this doozy.

The Kansas City Current proved that KC soccer cannot have nice things when they proceeded to then lose at home against the San Diego Wave. Though they did break an attendance record, so that’s a plus at least.

Here is a quick rundown of topics (and approximate start times):

    • Sporting KC crush Minnesota United! – 3:40
    • Sporting KC eliminated from the Open Cup – 39:54
    • Mike Illig Interview – 53:35
    • Rumor: Chivas want to buy Alan Pulido – 1:01:13
    • KC Current lose to the San Diego Wave – 1:08:45
    • Digital Crawl – 1:26:37

Here is the Chicharito article that Sheena referenced.

The 2 wins helps but the record is still abysmal. I think the only redemption is winning the MLS cup. Second place might also acceptable but that is just me.

The MNUFC win was nice – against a team not performing well. It was nice to note chemistry and effort. But true tests have yet to come on whether or not we have fixed our issues.

The Houston game…. God the management did not make sense. Afrifa was still causing problems and looked more dangerous than Shelton, yet Shelton stayed on. Tzionis did disappear in the second half, but also afrifa got subbed and so he lost a lot of support. The goal shouldn’t have happened. Between the poor clearance and having that near post open (reminds me of the Colorado goal on keeper positioning).

Vermes quotes…. he needs to stay quiet. His speech in the Cauldron was straight up gaslighting. Aside from people not showing up (who wants to watch a losing team), The fans never stopped supporting the players (well except for Shelton, but even that was more of a frustration on vermes than shelton). He isnt vengeful, he is spiteful. His rigidity in strategy and lack of depth in roster construction put us with ZERO wins after 25% of the season was complete. Of course he is going to spiteful because his attitude and behavior is always “my way or the highway”. Vermes needs to keep his mouth shut until he finishes this season with the MLS cup. You said they can be great? Prove it. Get a cup. Otherwise your words ring hollow. Firebrands that get so angry at bad calls or mistakes because they cause you to lose games are failing to take into account the uncontrollable variables. That anger is projection.

For future games, rotate the squad. If he runs our starting 11 into the ground it will further demonstrate how he has learned nothing. I would rather pound st Louis into the ground than take close losses in both games and risk injuries.

Just my 0.02. I think Chivas is bargain shopping – we either take money or lose him and not get money. If we trade pulido then we need a backup plan.

Thanks for your time and happy mother’s day, Sheena!
