Analyzing Sporting KC’s transfer window

This week, the Shades of Blue Soccer Show is analyzing Sporting KC’s transfer window as well as the job David Lee has done as General Manager thus far. Also, Thad has a game!

The MLS Secondary Transfer Window closed on Wednesday and the SKC roster did not get all the reinforcements fans might have been hoping for. Even signing Andre Luiz and the highest transfer fee in club history somehow doesn’t seem like enough! Which, unfortunately, really puts into perspective how far the team has fallen.

That is, if a quick check of the MLS table hadn’t already done so.

It seems there was at least one major move that did not make it over the line. Yann Ghobo was linked but ended up in the English Premier League with newly promoted Coventry City and a rumored $20 million price tag. SKC also dealt away arguably two of the best players on the team in Dejan Joveljic and Manu Garcia. Three new starters did arrive on the backline, but the results haven’t been seen yet. Additionally, some exciting rhetoric from the owner and front office would have contributed to heightened expectations.

This was all the responsibility of David Lee. So naturally eyes are on at him at the moment. And it should be noted, this organization burned everything down for the rebuild. The front office has been sparce. Lee hasn’t had a full organization of scouts and statisticians working behind him to bring in new players.

When discussing the job done by David Lee, that’s important context. But that point now seems to be an indictment on the organization. Hires have been made and more reported on without an official announcement. But the question remains, when will it be a complete front office?
