KC Current
Another Torn ACL, Bia Update, Benny Feilhaber’s Status and More
The Kansas City Current continue their busy offseason, and a Sporting KC Legend had a new job before he didn’t.
Digital Crawl
A times, there is just so much soccer we can’t keep up. The Digital Crawl will allow us to catch up while paying homage to Digital Takiwira, the first goal scorer in Kansas City Wizards history. Not to mention it’s a bit of a ‘digital crawl’ on the bottom of the screen on ESPN and various news channels. Check out the Digital Crawl archives if you missed any stories.
Plus, it’s a nice tie in for a similar segment at the end of every episode of the For the Glory KC podcast.
Mary Long Tears Her ACL
The Kansas City Current have been busy this offseason. They’ve added four players from college and seen several players depart including Hailie Mace and the surprising Alex Pfeiffer “mutual” contract termination.
The blows just kept coming on Tuesday when Mary Long announced on her Instagram, she had torn her ACL. While she says she’ll miss the beginning of the season, that’s usually a season ending injury.
The team already confirmed she had successful surgery for the injury, which is rumored to have happened during U-20 United States National Team camp. Assuming this sends her to the Season Ending Injury (SEI) list, that’ll leave the KC Current with 22 players of 26 available spots (counting the two loans and DiBernardo’s maternity leave).
Bia is Still Unsigned
There were reports that Bia Zanerrato had signed to Brazilian side Palmeiras on Monday but those were quickly shot down by her agent that was found by the “Blue Crew’s own Walter Cronkite.”

The Kansas City Current haven’t made any announcements about Bia since the season ended. They wished her a happy birthday and mentioned her international call-up, but she is officially out of contract and free to sign anywhere. It’s unclear if they are still negotiating with her.
She is eligible to be re-signed under the NWSL’s new controversial High Impact Player rule. As are some other big players (though many players who would provide a high impact are not). The Equalizer has the full list of who qualifies and a truncated list of who doesn’t.
Benny Feilhaber’s Future
Many Sporting Kansas City fans can’t help but keep an eye on Sporting Legend Benny Feilhaber. After stepping away from Sporting KC II before the 2025 season, he landed as the interim coach with the Oakland Roots late in the 2025 USL Championship season.
Reports, seemingly leaked from the USL themselves, had Feilhaber taking over as head coach of the El Paso Locomotive. However, the play-by-play announcer, Duke Keith confirmed Feilhaber won’t be the next coach.
I hear Sporting KC still need a head coach…
