Current Trades Gianna Paul to North Carolina Courage

The Kansas City Current agreed to trade forward Gianna Paul to the North Carolina Courage in exchange for $150,000 in intra-league transfer funds, the clubs jointly announced Wednesday.

After an All-American collegiate career at the University of Alabama, the Current signed Paul in December 2025. Paul was signed through 2028 with a club option for 2029.  Paul made 10 appearances for the Current as a rookie, including two starts, creating four chances.

Paul was a standout for Alabama, ending her four-year career as the team’s career record holder for goals (40), points (94), shots (279), and shots on goal (115). During her time with the Crimson Tide, Paul was a two-time USC All-American and three-time First Team All-SEC honoree. She was the school’s first two-time All-American and led the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including Alabama’s first-ever College Cup appearance in 2022.

“I am incredibly excited to join the North Carolina Courage. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this club on and off the field. The team is in a great place right now and I’m looking forward to contributing to the continued growth happening here,” Paul said via North Carolina press release.

We know she has plenty more to give, and we’re excited to help her get there,” said Courage Chief Soccer Officer Ceri Bowley.

The NWSL roster freeze is on October 8th. Teams can make intra-league moves until that date.
