The Kansas City Current made another roster move in this transfer window. Kansas City added forward Hildah Magaia on loan. The South African international in on loan for a fee from Mazatlán of the Liga MX Femenil. The loan is just through the 2024 season, but the Current can permanently acquire her rights at the end of her loan.

“Kansas City is such a great place for football,” said Magaia via press release. “I am eager to play in the NWSL and against some of the greatest players in the world.”

Magaia has been a key player for the South African National Team. The 29-year-old forward scored twice for South Africa in the 2023 World Cup, with one against Sweden and then another in the dramatic, upset victory over Italy. The win earned a spot in the knockout round, the first time for South Africa.

Fans have given Magaia the nickname of “Breadwinner” for her prolific scoring for both club and country.

“We have been watching Hildah play for some time and we’re very happy that we can bring her to Kansas City now,” said head coach Vlatko Andonovski via press release. “We feel that she can be a great part of this team going forward.”

The contrast between the Current and SKC is pretty stark right now. OK, in more ways than one.

Yeah, I can’t even keep up with this roster churn. Honestly, not sure I like it because it becomes hard to get invested in players, but, so far, they’ve continually upgraded. Not sure they gave Lauren much of a chance, but with Cook, Ballisager, Robinson hopefully back at full strength and Ball, it was a little crowded. Wish they could have gotten something better for her.

It definitely feels like their front office is in video-game mode. One of the perils of trying to be an all-star team is finding playing time for everyone.
