KC Current
KC Current Win, Vlatko Out, All the Cups and a Mailbag
No Sporting KC game, no problem. Lots of topics in this wide-ranging episode about the KC Current, Vlatko, Messi, the World and Leagues Cups.
For the Glory KC is back with the 47th episode of the show! (Creeping towards 50, should we do something special?)
On this week’s episode, the KC Current headline with SKC taking yet another week off (against their will after being eliminated from the Leagues Cup). Sheena and I discuss the big win from Kansas City against the OL Reign at Children’s Mercy Park. Including some behind the scenes from the post-game presser with Caroline Sjoblom, Cece Kizer and AD Franch.
Sporting Kansas City don’t get entirely left out of the show as our mini-mailbag gets a couple Sporting KC specific questions and they just sneak their way into the conversation in other places.
We also go through the world of soccer to talk Spain’s World Cup win, the Leagues Cup (I guess Messi was inevitable), Vlatko being out as the United States’ Women’s National Team coach (and in as the Current coach maybe?), that silly NWSL fine and much more! Despite having so little to talk about, we may have talked longer than ever. We’re chatty, what can we say?
Here is a quick rundown of topics (and approximate start times):
- KC Current win! – 4:56
- Vlatko out as US coach – 31:54
- A silly fine by the NWSL – 39:12
- World Cup – 46:24
- Leagues Cup – 54:27
- Another Mini Mailbag – 1:05:34
- Digital Crawl – 1:17:12

Thanks for all these thoughts and insights, but I have to ask–how did you (or would you if you hadn’t deleted it) respond to the Fiji survey??
Fiji was interesting. We didn’t stay long enough to get far enough away from Nadi (if you want waaay too many takes on Fiji and NZ, listen to last week’s episode).
I personally had some guilt about the rough living conditions of the people of Nadi. We stayed in a hotel that was on a man-made island and it was amazing. Crossing that bridge was like going into another world.
But we didn’t get far enough away from the city center to experience the Fiji you see in pictures. It was kind of a last-second add on to stay there a couple days, but you need more time to travel further away. There are 330 islands and we only saw two of them.
Right on, this makes a lot of sense. I got to visit my brother in Suva last summer (he works for Peace Corps there) and spent a semester in NZ (a quarter century ago) and so get excited about what people think of those areas. I’ll go back and give last week’s episode a listen!
