Juice Boxes and Post Game Stats: Record Loss in Colorado

Sporting Kansas City’s struggles this season continued in Colorado on Saturday night when they fell to the Colorado Rapids 2-0. Kansas City finished the game with nine men after Kwaku Agyabeng and Moises Mosquera were sent off for red cards in the game. Sporting now have one win in their last six league games, going 1-5 in that stretch. The one win being a 2-1 win over Minnesota United in KC’s first home game after the World Cup break. It’s the third straight time that Kansas City has been shutout. KC hasn’t scored since Manu Garcia scored what proved to be the winner in the 54th minute of the game against Minnesota. That puts Kansas City at 306 minutes without scoring a goal. That’s their longest streak without a goal in league play this year and their longest streak in league play since going over 400 minutes without a goal in the 2023 MLS season. They do have a longer streak in all competitions this year when you add in the US Open Cup loss to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks. The streak went to 370 minutes before Dejan Joveljic ended it.

Sporting KC lost to the Colorado Rapids on the road for the 21st time in club history. That’s now the most away losses against any one opponent. Previously it was a tie between Colorado, FC Dallas, and the Chicago Fire. (Dallas could equal Colorado on September 5th of this year when Kansas City travels to play FC Dallas.)

Dejan Joveljic became the 71st player to start 50 league games for Kansas City.

Joveljic became the 73rd player to start 50 games in MLS competitions for KC.

Shapi Suleymanov became the 101st player to appear in 50 games across all competitions for KC.
