The logic of re-signing Alan Pulido
If the reporting is to be trusted, Alan Pulido is set to sign a new deal to return with Sporting KC. The deal would double his current salary $4.4 million. A hefty price to pay for an aging, injury prone player. On this episode of Shades of Blue, we look at the logic of bringing back the Mexican striker.
“A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush,” is essentially what they’re going with. Pulido is a lethal goal scorer in MLS. He’s proven to be a bargain at his current salary when he is actually on the field. IF he can stay on the field. And that’s a big risk.
But there’s also risk involved in signing any new player, no matter how good they are. Maybe they don’t translate to this this league or this team. Additionally, they’d have to pay a high transfer fee to bring a fresh, young striker. Something every club on the planet wants to add to their roster.
This is a logic Sporting KC is quite familiar with. Peter Vermes likes what he knows. See Krisztian Nemeth, Benny Feilhaber, Uri Rosell, and Felipe Gutierrez. But is it the RIGHT logic?
Perhaps taking big risks is precisely what Sporting KC should be doing to pull themselves out of these dark days.
