Juice Boxes and Post Game Stats: Russell Scores vs Salt Lake for Sixth Straight Year

Sporting KC let their second two goal lead in less than a week slip away as they ended with their second 2-2 draw, this time at home at Children’s Mercy Park. After Daniel Salloi and Johnny Russell got KC out to a 2-0 half time lead, Real Salt Lake came back with goals by Danny Musovski and Anderson Julio to leave KC with a point 2-2. Here are the stats and milestones from the game.

Johnny Russell scored for the 6th straight year against Salt Lake in all competitions. Only one other player in KC’s history has scored against the same opponent six straight years, Chris Klein against the Colorado Rapids (2000-2005).

Russell scored his 35th goal at home in all competitions for KC, breaking his tie with Davy Arnaud for 4th all time on that list.

Russell recorded his 37th assist in MLS competitions, breaking his tie with Arnaud for 6th all time on that list.

Russell made his 145th start in MLS competitions, tying him with Ilie Sanchez for 15th all time on that list.

Daniel Salloi scored his 43rd goal in league play for KC, tying him with Arnaud and Josh Wolff for 4th all time on that list.

Salloi scored his 28th league goal at home for KC, breaking his tie with Arnaud and Kei Kamara for 4th all time on that list.

Salloi made his 198th appearance in all competitions, tying him with Benny Feilhaber for 13th all time on that list.

In the 33rd minute, Salloi passed Tony Meola and moved into 17th all time for league minutes played for KC. He finished the game with 12,894 minutes played.

Salloi made his 140th start in MLS competitions, tying him with Matt McKeon for 18th all time on that list.

At 33 years, 240 days, Andreu Fontas became the 20th oldest player to start a game for KC in all competitions.

Fontas made his 100th appearance in MLS competitions, he’s the 43rd player to reach that mark.

Marinos Tzionis made his 34th substitute appearance in all competitions, tying him with Paul Wright for 20th all time on that list.

It was his 33rd substitute appearance in MLS competitions, tying him with Wright, Jimmy Medranda, Chance Myers, Davy Arnaud, and Cam Duke for 16th all time on that list.

It was his 32nd substitute appearance in league play, tying him with Myers and Brian Johnson for 15th all time on that list.
