Juice Boxes and Post Game Stats: The Past Week’s Stats

Been a disappointing week this past week for Kansas City’s three professional outdoor teams as between the three they all played, but none were able to pick up a win. The best result was the KC Current picking up a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Red Stars. They kept their unbeaten start to the season going but walked away disappointed allowing a late equalizer. Earlier in the week, Sporting KC II was in Salt Lake City taking on the Real Monarchs. It was a disappointing result as Sporting KC II fell 5-1 to the Monarchs, their first loss on the road this season. On Saturday night, Sporting KC closed out the disappointing week with a 4-2 loss on the road to the LA Galaxy. Here’s this past week’s worth of stats from the three teams.

Sporting KC

The loss was Peter Vermes’ 171st loss in league play as head coach. He’s now been in charge of half of KC’s losses all time (he already passed that mark years ago for wins and draws).

The loss was Vermes’ 200th in all competitions as head coach of Sporting.

In the 80th minute, Tim Melia passed Kerry Zavagnin and moved into 4th place all time for minutes played in all competitions for KC. He finished the game with 25,299 minutes played.

Melia made his 281st start in all competitions, tying him with Zavagnin for 4th all time on that list.

At 34 years, 68 days, Johnny Russell became the 16th oldest player to start a game in league play and in all competitions, passing Zavagnin on both lists.

Russell made his 179th start in all competitions, tying him with Daniel Salloi for 12th all time on that list.

Erik Thommy’s assist was his 16th in league play for KC, tying him with Gadi Kinda, Gerso Fernandes, and Chance Myers for 20th all time on that list.

Marinos Tzionis made his 41st substitute appearance for KC, tying him with CJ Sapong, Teal Bunbury, and Ryan Pore for 9th all time on that list.

It was his 41st substitute appearance in MLS competitions for KC, tying him with Salloi and Bunbury for 12th all time on that list.

KC Current

Temwa Chawinga’s goal was her 8th in all competitions for KC, breaking her tie with Hailie Mace for 5th all time on that list.

Bia Zaneratto’s goal was her 5th in league play for KC, tying her with Mace for 6th all time on that list.

Zaneratto’s goal was her 5th in all competitions, tying her with Michelle Cooper for 7th all time on that list.

It was Zaneratto’s 5th assist in league play, breaking her tie with Chawinga and Izzy Rodriguez for 5th all time on that list.

It was her 5th assist in all competitions, tying her Rodriguez for 6th all time on that list.

Hailie Mace made her 61st start in all competitions, tying her with Kristen Hamilton for 4th all time on that list.

LaBonta made her 89th league start, breaking her tie with Becky Sauerbrunn for 2nd all time on that list.

Scott made her 90th league appearance for KC NWSL teams, tying her with Erika Tymrak for 3rd all time on that list.

Chawinga’s goal was her 8th in league play for KC NWSL teams, tying her with Sarah Hagen for 9th all time on that list.

Ethan Bryant scored his 10th league goal for SKCII, tying him with Nansel Selbol for 7th all time on that list.

It was his 10th goal in all competitions, tying him with Selbol and Kris Tyrpak for 7th all time on that list.

Sebastian Cruz made his 44th appearance in all competitions for SKCII, tying him with John Pulskamp for 20th all time on that list.
