Breaking: Manu Garcia Potentially Departing Sporting KC
Sporting Kansas City and Manu Garcia were having discussions about his future with the club before Saturday’s match in Colorado.
On Saturday night, Manu Garcia was an unused substitute against the Colorado Rapids in a 2-0 loss on the road.
Heading into the game, it was the topic of discussion since he’s one of Sporting Kansas City’s only two Designated Players and manager Raphael Wicky continues not to start him. Before we could see if it was a tactical plan, the team went down a man in the first half for the second straight game.
Maybe the plan was to bring Manu on as a super sub and change the game. Maybe that was the plan last week. It’s hard to know, when Sporting KC suddenly can’t stop getting red cards. If that was the plan, it goes out the window with a sending off.
However, Rapha Wicky indicated it was not the plan.
In the post-game press conference, he answered the KC Soccer Journal’s question about tactics with a surprising revelation.
“Manu was available for selection, but we had some discussions with him about his future in recent days, and so I decided it was best not to involve him in the game tonight,” said Wicky. “That’s all I can say. Everything else I refer to David [Lee].”
It was shocking to hear. Is Manu Garcia leaving Sporting KC? Rumors started during the break when Manu Garcia posted a cryptic black and white image of him walking away. However, Manu himself told us it was nothing. “Keep calm and keeping working,” he said in a reply on Twitter.
Well, he may be doing that work elsewhere. There will plenty of time to discuss if it’s the right move or the wrong move for Sporting KC. But what is your initial reaction? Let us know in the comments!
I’ve made some comments about Garcia before. Perhaps he isn’t the no10 we need and/or he doesn’t have the pieces around him to reach his potential. I think the later may be the ‘truer’ statement. I’m not sure any no10 comes in to fix the issues we have. That’s too tall of a task. Perhaps Garcia needs another piece around him to find his stride.
Good on him. I hope he gets traded. Time is very precious and players don’t have a lot of it. If a side is not using him, then he needs to go to a side that will use him.
