Across State Lines: Kamara Announces Retirement

Published

on

Former Sporting Kansas City forward, Kei Kamara announced his retirement from professional soccer this past week after a 20 year professional career. He spent five of those seasons in Kansas City playing with Sporting from 2009 to 2013. He retires as the second all time leading scorer in MLS history with 147 goals, trailing only Chris Wondolowski. In his 20 year career, Kamara played for a record, 12 MLS teams, but the most games with one club, was his time with Kansas City. Kamara played 113 times in league play for KC and 126 in all competitions. He’s eighth all time in club history in goals with 38 in league play and 41 in all competitions.

Elsewhere this week, European seasons are starting to wind down, and that means championships are being decided and promotion is being guaranteed. Two former Kansas City players earned promotion this past week with their new clubs. First was former Sporting Homegrown Player, Gianluca Busio, who helped lead Venezia FC back to Serie A after being relegated last season. In England, AD Franch and Brimingham City won the WSL2 title and promotion to the WSL for the 2026-2027 season.

Here’s the rest of this week’s update.
