The MASL playoffs are here and we need to discuss. Erik Bergrud from the Kansas City Comets broadcast team and Thad Bell from the Kansas City Soccer Journal recorded the latest episode of The Blue Turf to talk playoffs, Comets, and more. It has been tough to record lately with our schedules.

The 2025 Ron Newman Cup Playoffs format has been a little controversial, with some fans and an owner being critical, but we talk about why it does make sense to try it this year for the MASL. The Kansas City Comets will not have it easy. They had the top seed in their grasp before struggling at the end and falling to the fourth seed.

They face a long-time rival in the first round. The Milwaukee Wave is never easy under any conditions and the Comets have certainly struggled the last few games. Injuries have played a large part but also the team has also not been themselves in the last third.

Erik breaks down the playoff matchups and reveals some of his voting for post-season awards.

We talk about which Comets have been the standouts for the last part of the season and compare this version of the Comets to last year’s.

Can the Comets win their first-round game? Can they make it to the semi-finals on Sunday or all the way to the Ron Newman Cup finals.

Let us know your thoughts.
