The 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup hosted by Mexico, Canada, the United States is less than 100 days away. And the U.S. Men’s National Team’s roster is at the height of its competition ahead of friendlies at the end of March.

Thus, it is time for a U.S. National Teams focused podcast. We aren’t quite settled on what to call it: “Over There” or “Shades of Red, White, and Blue”, maybe work in “Over There and Over Here” somehow… Give your vote or idea in the comments.

Anyway, why not start with a special guest? Diego Gutierrez is a key part of Kansas City Wiz/Wizards and MLS history. He is a champion, the original Colombian homegrown, has a PhD, and has worked with U.S. Soccer and MLS in various capacities, amongst a number of other achievements. Dude’s got game.

Our inaugural pod focuses on the influence of U.S. Men’s National Team Manager Mauricio Pochettino and an analysis of the Men’s top midfield candidates for the 26-man World Cup roster. Along the way, Diego updates us on an MLS initiative he is an integral part of and gives insight from his experiences hanging with various U.S. players at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Although Cody, Thad, Robert, and Diego didn’t check in on the U.S. Women’s National Team and their SheBelieves Cup run in this episode, the women will feature often on our yet-to-be-named pod.

Amid a successful club and high school coaching career, Robert began writing for Major League Soccer as a stringer in 2004, doing weekly coverage and being sent to MLS Cup and the SuperDraft in subsequent seasons. Since then, Robert has continued playing and writing about soccer, although he chose to stop coaching in 2015.
