Sporting Kansas City announced the signing of MLS free agent Mason Toye at a press conference Saturday.

The 26-year-old forward was drafted by Minnesota United in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft and made his debut that same year in March. Throughout his time with the Loons, Toye scored seven goals, including a stoppage time winner against FC Dallas in 2019.

In 2020, Toye was traded to CF Montreal where he scored 11 goals in 48 regular season appearances. He scored a career-high seven goals in 2021 with Montreal, which was good for second on the team behind only Romell Quioto (8).

Toye was once again traded in 2024 to the Portland Timbers, making 12 appearances and scoring one goal across all competitions during the season. After the season, the Timbers declined his contract option.

As a youth product, Toye earned three caps with the USMNT U23 squad, scoring twice.

Toye’s signing comes days after it was announced that Mexican striker Alan Pulido would be returning to Chivas in Liga MX, and after SKC announced the signing of 19-year-old Homegrown product Jacob Bartlett.

Toye and Bartlett join Ian James and Jack Kortkamp as the offseason additions to the club roster.

Back up striker with some height? Sounds like an OK addition.

This is a great addition. Squad depth, MLS experience, reasonable price. Now they can move to a DP #10!
