The Kansas City Current are still on top of the table and remain undefeated with the road win over Angel City FC. It took a pair of late Claire Lavogez goals but Kansas City improved to a 5-0-1 record with the 3-1 victory. Manager Vlatko Andonovski made two changes from the starting lineup that destroyed Bay City FC 5-2 a week earlier. Izzy Rodriguez returned to the starting lineup, replacing Hailie Mace at left-back. The other change was Stine Ballisager replacing Elizabeth Ball at center back. A positive for Andonovski was Lo LaBonta and Debinha becoming available.

Angel City were on a two-game winning streak after their 4-2 loss at Kansas City on March 30th with victories at Chicago Red Stars (1-0) and at home over North Carolina (2-1).

The Current started well but over a bit of time, Angel City started to gain the upper hand, creating better chances. It paid off for the home side when U.S. International Alyssa Thompson pulled a pair of defenders out wide. Thompson picked out Claire Emslie making a slashing run into the box. The Scottish attacker made a move around a defender before blasting the ball past Kansas City keeper A.D. Franch.

Andonovski gave credit to Angel City coach Becki Tweed for her gameplay and stated he knew they just needed to get to the half to make adjustments. The Current brought on Mace for Wheeler and Michelle Cooper for Alexa Spaanstra. Andovoski indicated there were to allow the Current to pressure higher up the field defensively. The increased pressure provided opportunities for Kansas City.

In the attack Andovoski wanted the squad to be more patient and Vanessa DiBernardo took advantage of one of those opportunities. As the team moved the ball around, Bia touched it to DiBernardo. The KC midfielder took a touch, and maneuvered around Bia before launching a diving shot into the net to level the score.

DiBernardo almost had a second goal a few minutes later when another dipping shot went off the crossbar.

Kansas City brought in Lavogez for Bia in the 63rd. Ten minutes later Debinha and LaBonta came in for DiBernardo and Feist. As time started to run out for a go-ahead goal, Debinha dribbled the ball around looking for the right moment and drawing defenders to her. Space opened up for Rodiguez to exploit as Debinha slid her the ball. Lavogez made the run in front of the goal mouth as Rodriguez slid the ball inside. Lavogez redirected it into goal and the Current were in the lead.

It did not take long for Lavogez to notch her brace.

Lavogez had not scored in league play since before her injury in 2022 and then put in a pair on Angel City. The French attacker had come close with creative chances and almost had one earlier in the evening with a creative flick.

The Current have two more road games on this road trip. next up is the Houston Dash and then the Seattle Reign before returning home.
