KC and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Weekend
Sporting KC lost. KC Current lost. And SKCII were eliminated after choosing their own opponent.
It’s been a rough year for Kansas City soccer. Sporting KC started off with a historically bad start and the KC Current followed up a great run last year with a hugely disappointing season. All that suffering came together this weekend.
SKC were embarrassed (again) in St. Louis. The Current lost again, virtually eliminating them from the postseason. To cap off the weekend, Benny Feilhaber’s SKCII side lost in the first round of the MLS Next Pro playoffs after choosing their own opponent.
On this episode of Shades of Blue, we try to find out what went wrong in the 70th minute of the 4-1 loss to St. Louis City SC. We’ve got more strange decisions from referees, Jake Davis doing Jake Davis things, and attempt to locate Alan Pulido, who is thought to be somewhere in the midfield region. Plus we look at what went wrong for the KC Current and SKCII.
We’ll be back on Wednesday with another episode on all the midweek MLS action and previewing this weekend’s match at Real Salt Lake.

It’s wild we probably recorded our pods around the same time and Thad and I had some identical takes. I’m not sure who is rubbing off on who.
Great minds think alike I suppose.
“ Great minds think alike I suppose.”
There’s an alternative theory there too… 🙂
I mean, there are only so many opinions on a subject, I’m bound to agree with one of you. I hadn’t seen, heard or talked to Thad since Friday.
Mine came out today, but we recorded yesterday, Sheena was just sick. I ended up editing for her. Hence the delay.
I was happy to hear the thoughts on pulido covered. Am I the only one worried about how much I am going to grown when next years salary data is released and we find out that vermes et AL are playing dumb money soccer?
I will say he needs to stop dropping back so deep. It is getting to the point of hindering our already struggling wingers and wearing out our team. If we have to incorporate and rely on our FBs to flood for success then that is just as unsustainable as chaos ball. How many injuries have we gone through because we are completely running our FBs into the ground?
I feel like we have the team to be able to pull off a 4-4-2. Anyone have thoughts on that?
