Sporting KC MLS Playoff Hunt Update

Can Sporting KC still make the MLS Cup Playoffs? Here’s the good news, the bad news, and the games to watch around the league.

Sporting KC missed a huge opportunity on Saturday night to beat an Inter Miami side which was without their best player, the greatest soccer player of all time, Lionel Messi. The dramatic 3-2 loss came down to just two moments of lapses in judgement, for which they were punished. With razor thin margins, SKC’s hunt for the MLS Cup Playoffs has become more complicated.

Right now, they sit in 12th place with 32 points and six games remaining.

So… can Sporting KC still make the playoffs? Yes.

Let’s take a look at what else happened around the league over the weekend.

The Bad News

  • Every single “team to watch” earned at least one point.
  • Portland Timbers leapfrogged SKC with a massive 2-0 win vs LAFC.
  • Dallas holds the ninth and final playoff spot two points ahead of SKC… with two games in hand.

The Good News

  • SKC are just five points behind Minnesota United with two head-to-head matches remaining.
  • There are still five teams within reach of SKC.

This is an absolutely crazy league. So while it may seem grim right now, so much is going to change and shift in the final month of the season. There are still 18 points on the table for Sporting KC and they absolutely can still sneak in above the line.

SKC travel to Minnesota on Saturday for what is essentially a must-win game against one of the teams they can leapfrog into a playoff spot. Here are the other matches to keep an eye on this weekend.

  • Seattle @ Dallas – Saturday at 7:30pm
  • Salt Lake @ San Jose – Saturday at 9:30pm
  • Portland @ Austin – Sunday at 7:30pm

Keep an eye out later in the week for more on what we want to happen across the league.

This week’s Shade of Blue has the full conversation about the implications from Sporting KC’s loss to Miami, plus a breakdown of what went wrong in Ft. Lauderdale.

There are two Imo’s locations in KC. Rainbow Dr in KCK and Overland Park. I’ve been to both.

I have provel in my fridge right now…

Ugh.

Provel (/proʊˈvɛl/) is a white processed cheese product particularly popular in St. Louis cuisine, that is a combination of cheddar, Swiss, and provolone cheeses. Provel has a low melting point, and therefore has a gooey and almost buttery texture at room temperature. It is the traditional topping for St. Louis-style pizza. It is also often used in the preparation of cheese soup and served on salads, chicken, and the Gerber sandwich. Some restaurants use Provel for their pasta dishes with white sauce instead of the customary fresh Italian cheese and cream.

Popular in the St. Louis area, Provel is rarely used elsewhere. Provel can, however, be purchased at Hy-Vee grocery stores throughout the Midwest.

Because of Provel’s moisture content, it cannot be labeled as cheese in the U.S. Instead it is labeled as “pasteurized process cheese”.

Per Wikipedia.
