Best line heard so far: let the StL fans enjoy it while they can – that city can’t keep a football team.
Besides a cup final, I’m not sure I’ve ever wanted a win so bad.
Let’s send them home very unhappy.
I’m hoping for a good fight if absolutely nothing else. A domination from STL is unacceptable in this scenario
The atmosphere here is still fun, but man, there should not be this many red shirts in the stadium. During prime SKC, the south stand would have been overflowing with blue, with maybe a few reds scattered about.
Their 3,000 fans shouldn’t be as loud – or louder – as our 15,000. There’s a lot more passion from STL, whereas for SKC, there’s a lot more “hey let’s go to a Soccer game, that sounds fun” types.
Yep. It’s ridiculous how many red shirts there are here.
What really pisses me off and might push me to Reid Out status is that they sold the bud light landing suite to StL fans.
Right? Like come on, do something to make Sporting fans feel like this is THEIR stadium
Can’t stop STMs from selling their tickets so the south and East stand are what they are.
But the suites?!
It’s on management, not the fans. All the reasons for #Vermesout, and the earlier protests, and general fan disenchantment with the team and stadium experience, are still there whether or not the team has stabilized to not-complete-dumpster-fire-level. Whereas STL is still enjoying shiny new toy syndrome with their dream first season. I could re-post most of what I wrote about Chivas fans showing up in droves and it would apply tonight too. It’s on management to provide a team and stadium experience worth turning out for.
Agreed.
They’re chanting with passion, we’re waving flags around.
They’re banking so much on “history” tonight and “what the club has accomplished”; it needs to stop.
When you’re where we’re at over the past few years, you’ve lost the right to use your accomplishments (last being 10 years ago) as a campaign about why were the “Soccer Capital of America”
Also: Chapman is the ref. Yay.
Chapman living up to what I expected from him with that no PK call
From where I am in 128 I didn’t think it was a penalty. Didn’t have the best angle, though.
I was fine with the history stuff. I took that as a dig at St. Louis being the new kid.
Cody and I were talking in the press box and let’s see how their support is sustained over the years. They won’t (hopefully) be good every year. Then again, they lost their striker for 4 months and are in first in the West. When SKC lost Pulido, they were basically one of the worst teams in the league.
Their plug and play, hack and slash style seems to be working quite well.
Sure looked like a foul on Felipe to me.
I would have called it but I can see why they didn’t.
I’m in the stadium so I’m just going off my eyes and didn’t get to see any replays
Live I thought it was a foul.
Watching the replay, he takes his arm and pulls him back, which is why he “wins” the ball. It’s a foul.
A goal from a no call, who would have guessed?! This is ridiculous, they chopped down guituerrez (I think it was Gutierrez) and didn’t touch the ball, then go right down and score.
Oh but let’s call back Espinozas goal from a light foul 30 seconds before.
Basically a copy and past from the last match up. You have to make that call. On the replay, you can see he clips his legs and doesn’t even touch the ball. Cmon man.
VAR needs to have the courage to send him to the monitor.
Sloppy passes by SKC in the WORST positions. Need to be more sharp. Also, Walter at CDM is feeling worrisome. He cant build out of the back so Felipe and Thommy keep dropping deep into his position to progress the ball forward.
Puliiiiiiido
Edit: and what a beautiful chip from Thommy
Let’s go. Solid simple run at the keeper and good on Ndemeber to not randomly lob it into the box
THAT’S A PK!!!!!!!!! MAKE A CALL
This game is going to go full CONCACAF at this rate. If Chapman had his whistle any deeper in his throat he’d be a songbird.
Would love to hear him mic’d up.
I bet we’d get a lot of “i didn’t see it. Anyone got me?”
Remi missed Salloi wide-open for the switch. Wouldve been a tough pass but man.
¡Pulido, lo me encanta!
Yeah I dont think Jake Davis is letting go of that right-back spot. What a run from him.
Well I’m buying a Jake Davis kit now. Good lad!!
That goal goes to Davis.
The goal right before half is huge. My worry is Vermes will implement his plan of “focusing” on holding onto the lead for the final 35 minutes. If we do that, STL WILL score.
What most frustrating is that at the minimum, it should be 2-0 for us. The argument that we should have at least 1 PK is very valid as well. If correct calls had been made, we’d be in total control of this game.
We’re lucking out. Pulling our usual 2nd-half blunders and it’s going to cost us
Russell gets tackled from behind on a breakaway, and Chapman says ball. How can you be THIS terrible and still be one of the league mainstays?
Former referee of the year.
To be fair, the STL player did get the ball, but then he trails through and rolls Russell’s ankle. I’m guessing not the injured one.
Russell did get away with a studs up challenge in the first. There wasn’t much force in it, but still, I’ve seen yellow for less.
Thommy gets an arm to the face, no call….
I haven’t seen a Scotsman get chopped this many times since my DVD of Braveheart wore out.
Chapman really?? That’s a yellow card! Johnny is off and running without that foul.
Serious question for anyone that might be able to offer an answer: why do line refs hardly flag fouls, even if it’s right in front of them? 9 out of 10 times they wait for the center official to call something even if they were 2 feet away
I honestly have no clue. The AR is RIGHT THERE for the one where Johnny is chopped down on a counter and nothing…
The Purina logo is valid since STL are hauling down our players like a cat on curtains.
These little bumps being called for STL are incredible. They could not be less of a foul, and Chapman is calling every single one for them
This is what I think got me the most about his officiating. He did make bad calls both ways in big moments. But to let so much go, then call ticky-tack nonsense was weird.
It’s insane how every bump from an SKC player is drawing a whistle while STL are in full hack-a-Shaq mode with no consequences. SKC need to be careful about the (justified) complaining, though, at this rate they’re going to draw cards for protest.
Pulido getting the first yellow of the game – after committing his first foul – while STL fans chant “ref you suck” as if they haven’t benefited from his calls, summarizes cha chaos that is Chapman
SALLOI, HOW?!?!?!?!
I’m terrified that sequence is going to come back to haunt us.
Should be 3-1
Or 3-0. Or 4-0.
Oh god here comes Shelton. He better be running pretty freakin hard and chasing every ball like his life depends on it, given the conext and that there’s only 15 minutes left
So many missed counters!!! SKC needs to put this away.
Let’s go Shelton! Might as well cheer him on…
6 minutes of stoppage, for what?
We held out a whole 2nd half for a big win. That’s nuts
Two wins in a row, nice.
Haven’t been watching as consistently, but this was a must watch. Honestly, Chapman was bad for both sides, so no real complaint outside of his terrible no call for STL’s first goal. That felt like some messed up deja vu. I wish we could’ve put a few more away to really make a statement, but I’m just glad that we didn’t give up after going down like we did the last time.
