National Teams
USWNT at the World Cup preview podcast
A look at the opponents and the roster
Huw Williams joins Thad Bell from the Kansas City Soccer Journal to preview the US Women’s National team at the 2023 World Cup. The first segment is focused on the group stage games and some of the other teams in the World Cup. The USWNT faces Viet Nam, Portugal, and the Netherlands in the group stage and Williams talks about what the United States faces with each one. We also discuss a few teams that can challenge the US women, who might be breakout players for the US, and more. The US Women are going for a third straight championship but it will be their most difficult so far as the rest of the world continues to improve.
The second segment was recorded shortly after the World Cup roster was announced. Williams helps break down why some players did or did not make the roster for the World Cup. Were their obvious snubs or was the roster determined by who was healthy and in form?
The US is coached by Kansas City resident Vlatko Andonovski. Williams and Andonovski worked together in the NWSL and in local soccer so Williams brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the podcast. He coached the Kansas City Current, was an assistant with FC Kansas City under Vlatko Andonovski, was an assistant with US Soccer, has coached in the WPSL and NPSL, and led numerous youth teams to regional and national championships.
