Juice Boxes and Post Game Stats: Highs/Lows for Sporting KC’s Holiday Weekend

A split weekend of results for Sporting KC and Sporting KC II as Sporting won 2-1 in Colorado, for their first win on the road against the Colorado Rapids since 2014. On Saturday though the lows of the weekend hit as Sporting KC II reached the midpoint of the MLS Next Pro season without a win in their 4-0 loss to Portland Timbers 2. Here are the stats and milestones from the weekend.

Sporting KC

Sporting has now earned more points on the road this year in 11 games (11 points) than they did all of last season on the road (9).

The win was Sporting’s 1st win in Colorado since March of 2014. And only their second regular season win at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Erik Thommy made his 100th appearance in MLS competitions. He’s the 45th player to reach that mark.

Thommy’s goal was Kansas City’s 50th in all competitions on the road against Colorado.

His goal was also the 100th scored in Colorado between the 2 teams in league play.

Thommy scored his 19th league goal for KC, tying him with Teal Bunbury, Felipe Gutierrez, and Krisztian Nemeth for 18th all time on that list.

The goal was Thommy’s 19th in MLS competitions, tying him with Gutierrez and Gerso Fernandes for 20th all time on that list.

Thommy’s assist was his 22nd in league play for KC, tying him with Kerry Zavagnin for 12th all time on that list.

It was his 22nd assist in MLS competitions, breaking his tie with Kei Kamara and Jack Jewsbury for 13th all time on that list.

It was Thommy’s 25th assist in all competitions, tying him with Zavagnin for 12th all time on that list.

John Pulskamp recorded his 2nd assist of the season. He’s the 1st Sporting goalkeeper to record 2 assists in a single season.

Pulskamp’s 2 assists tie him with Tony Meola for the most assists by a goalkeeper in club history.

Pulskamp made his 50th league appearance for KC, he’s the 87th player to reach that mark.

It was Pulskamp’s 50th appearance in MLS competitions. He’s the 93rd player to reach that mark.

Daniel Salloi made his 53rd substitute appearance in MLS competitions, tying him with Jewsbury for 3rd all time on that list.

It was Salloi’s 51st substitute appearance in league play for KC, breaking his tie with Graham Zusi for 4th all time on that list.

Khiry Shelton made his 164th appearance in MLS competitions, tying him with Mo Johnston for 16th all time on that list.

Tim Leibold made his 50th start in all competitions for KC. He’s the 80th player to reach that mark.

Sporting KC II

With the loss, Sporting KC II is now winless halfway through the season. They have five points and sit in 14th place in the MLS Next Pro Western Conference. They are 13 points behind 13th place LAFC2. LAFC2 is closer to 2nd place Ventura County than SKCII is to LAFC2.

In the 42nd minute, Nati Clarke passed Tyler Pasher and moved into 12th place all time for minutes played in all competitions for KC. He finished the game with 4,279 minutes played.

Clarke made his 62nd league appearance for KC, tying him with Jake Davis for 7th all time on that list.

Clarke made his 48th league start for KC, breaking his tie with Adrian Zendejas for 9th all time on that list.

Clarke made his 49th start in all competitions, tying him with Wilson Harris for 11th all time on that list.

Maouloune Goumballe made his 39th league start for KC, breaking his tie with Kayden Pierre and Parker Maher for 18th all time on that list.

So, not a lot of help on the way from the Reserves…

Not soon at least. A couple younger kids might be really good but I never have faith in that until it happens. Some of the Academy guys might be good but the overall team is not good enough for it to show.
