Juice Boxes and Post Game Stats: Another Divided Weekend

It was another divided weekend of soccer for Kansas City’s professional teams with the three teams going 1-1-1 on the weekend. On Saturday night, the KC Current got things going with a 2-1 win in Orlando over the Orlando Pride. That same night, Sporting Kansas City couldn’t continue the run, falling 1-0 to the Chicago Fire. On Sunday at Rock Chalk Park, Sporting KC II ended in a 1-1 draw with North Texas SC that Sporting won 5-4 on penalty kicks to earn the extra point. Here are the stats and milestones from this weekend.

Sporting KC

The Chicago Fire won their first game in KC since 6/29/2012. The Fire had gone 0-7-2 (W-L-D) in KC before last night’s win.

The goal by Fabian Herbers was the 100th goal scored by the Fire against Kansas City in all competitions, they’re the 4th team to score 100 goals against KC.

Daniel Salloi made his 175th appearance in MLS competitions, tying him with Benny Feilhaber for 13th all time on that list.

Johnny Russell made his 165th appearance in MLS competitions, breaking his tie with Mo Johnston for 15th all time on that list.

In the 24th minute, Russell passed Matt McKeon and moved into 18th all time for league minutes played for KC. He finished the game with 11,616 minutes played.

In the 5th minute, Russell passed Jimmy Nielsen and moved into 19th place all time for minutes played in MLS competitions. He finished the game with 12,508 minutes played.

Russell made his 142nd start in MLS competitions, breaking his tie with Tony Meola for 16th all time on that list.

Khiry Shelton made his 34th appearance as a substitute in league play, tying him with Gerso Fernandes for 13th all time on that list.

It was Shelton’s 36th substitute appearance in MLS competitions for KC, tying him with Brian Johnson for 14th all time on that list.
