very interesting lineup tonight. if any media members play well enough at half time, they might get subbed in
Well the boys on the bench aren’t getting it done either.
Looks like heavy rotation. I wouldn’t be surprised if its a 4-4-2 tonight. Simple to play defense in that formation and keeps it simple for a lot of the reserves playing. You would loose the midfield numbers but would overload the wide areas. I would expect Afrifa and Vargas to attack the space behind the two Vancouver wingbacks all night. That could be a recipe for success.
Scratch that. Looks to be a 4-3-3 with Shelton at right back.
That was quite a collision. I hope Vargas is OK because the last sub I want to see on the pitch is Johnny Russell.
I want to see some long balls over the top so Afrifa and Vargas can show their speed and athleticism. What a great cross Vargas had into the path of Agada.
SKC have to play quicker down the wings! Their have been at least three good opportunities to attack the three centre-backs. Those wingbacks want the ball in front of them so skc is only doing them a service.
Our wingers are putting Salloi and Russell to shame. They have been more dangeous in 15 minutes than the starters have been all season. I just hope our back end can be solid. It is quite a mishmash.
Off-ball, Hernandez and Davis are running Vancouver ragged. They are making runs from the midfield we dont often make.
When your front three are providing the energy and creativity like this, it spurs everyone to give greater effort. I’m so tired of watching Johnny Russell walk up the field and the timid play of Salloi. I’m sure the rest of the squad feels the same.
They need to get back to this in the second half! The last 10-15 minutes they reverted to playing slow, playing right in front of the Vancouver defense. They have to start the half with some desperation, like the first half.
Agreed. In their defense, Hernandez and the 7/11 probably aren’t in full match condition since they don’t get much run week in and week out. Still, I will take Vargas and Afrifa over Russell and Salloi any day.
Good old Shelton special – stand and watch. He didn’t move at all with his man, then proceeded to stand and watch the entire sequence.
Everyone else has been playing pretty well, then, there’s our useless $750k player that’s nothing more than a body on the field.
The Besler Special throw-in made that goal possible. Just create havoc in the 6 yard box and hope.
It doesn’t happen if he marks his man though
If there is one thing that is glaring, its how they are “hiding” Shelton at right back. Shelton hasn’t been a factor in possession, hasn’t even ventured forward once, and hasn’t been aggressive defensively. I mean he has won 0 DUELS thus far, and has only been in one. At right back! That tells you he’s been a non-factor in and out of possession.
He’s a non factor period. He needs to be gone!!
What options did Vermes give himself? Look at the subs on the bench. Is there a player available who could play midfield so you could slide Davis to RB and take Shelton off? Vermes didn’t call up a midfielder from SKC2, which was suggested in an article on this site yesterday.
Groundhog Day. Well, we can hope the youngsters wore down Vancouver’s back line so the geriatric duo and Bambi Salloi can make something happen.
This possession play from SKC is so uninspiring.
SKC has been stuck on 6 shot attempts for at least 30 or 40 minutes.
I’m so confused on our corners. How are they so….bad? Every single one – except when Memo takes them – is extremely overhit, high, and arcing in. Why can’t they curl a ball to the middle of the box, ever?
With Salloi, Pulido and Russell in the game there is nobody that stretches the field and challenges the centerbacks and opens up the defense. Our attack gets so compacted with slow build-up that it takes someone with real skill to make something happen in the tight spaces……something SKC sorely lacks.
Watching Russell, Pulido, and Salloi is insufferable at this point. They’ve done less than who they subbed in for. It’s the same old mindless movements, holding the ball too long, passing backwards, stagnant play we’ve gotten used to from them
Speaking of same old moves…..There goes Johnny Russell on one of his patented “let me carry the ball away from goal and then pass to the left back and wander over to the left side of midfield for a while” moves.
Mass exodus from the stadium after that 2nd goal. No one has any hope in this team
There shouldn’t be a traffic jam. What was the attendance?
They didn’t announce it. From what I can remember, they haven’t been announcing it – at least consistently – since attendance started dropping
Take out the Inter Miami game at Arrowhead and the attendance has to be bottom third of the conference, at best.
I’d say maybe half full, this team is objectively the worst in Sporting history which is impressive considering last year
Vermes has to go.
No movement, no heart. Looks like a lot of quit out there on that field.
I think the defenders were just so shocked that Shelton attacked that space on the dribble they were caught flat-footed. But give credit where it is due. At least Shelton was brave enough to take the space and make something happen.
And who was there to finish it? Your designated player and center forward, Pulido?? Nah.
It is so hard-baked to pass to feet that we squander a terrible amount of opportunities.
I don’t want Russell on the field again.
I don’t want pulido and salloi as starters.
There needs to be pressure from ownership and someone’s seat needs to be hot.
I hope tzionis earns a place over salloi and Russell.
The stadium was dead. The Cauldron is dead.
2 months without a league win?
