Thad Bell from the Kansas City Soccer Journal is joined by three members of Sunflower State FC @SunflowerStFC, co-vice president Sal Sesti, Director of coaching and NPSL head coach Nick Mcdonald, and WPSL head coach Jose Ramos. Sunflower State FC is one of several local lower-division teams providing places for players to continue their careers before, during, and after college, and maybe even make it to the pro level.

Both coaches talk about their first couple of games of the 2023 season with some success and some missed opportunities. We discuss how the coaches go about building their teams with local players and some from around the world and then bringing them together as a team. Of course, we discuss the importance of lower-division soccer, so players have a chance to go through the club and potentially even move on to play professionally.

Sunflower State FC is connected to the local community, helping other clubs and growing soccer in Kansas City. Give the pod a listen, go to a game, buy a little merch from a club that is not supported by billionaires, and help keep local soccer growing. It is well worth the time and money to watch and support local teams.

You can find The Kansas City Soccer Journal family of pods covering all the local teams wherever you get your podcasts. Follow Thad @TheBackpost and Sunflower State FC @SunflowerStFC
