I’m here. Maybe because I’m too tired to do anything else after a busy weekend. Maybe because I’m an addict who can’t stop. Maybe because I keep somehow hoping/believing that they’ll turn it around and I’ll have been there for all of it. Maybe because part of me is secretly hoping they’ll crater so bad they’ll force some needed housecleaning.
What does it say that we’re all probably glad (players included?) this is a road game?
I’m here too. Can’t quit. Won’t quit. But it’s also lunacy for PV to refuse to adapt or rotate.
I really like Daniel. I defended him in the lean years. But what does Tzionis need to do to get time?! If I was him, I’d be demanding a transfer in the summer window.
Gadi, Thommy, and Remi doesn’t have a whole lot of defensive presence but i know if be happy to see at least one goal.
Prepared for more disappointment today.
Tzionis, Duke, Hernandez…the list of young players who have a right to be dissatisfied is long.
I really hope to see a desperate, sharp team on that field today. A team running in the box and running to track back. Anything less and this will be just like every other game we’ve lost.
I want to see some of the fire Chicharito showed after their latest loss. An angry, shamed team, not a broken, sad team.
Side note–it’s a bit of a pet peeve of mine how the MLS lists a match’s kickoff time. Don’t say 3:30 when it’s actually going to start at 3:55. Other sports don’t do that (or at least not to this extreme). If an EPL game lists a start time of 2:00, there could already be a goal by 2:01.
I’ve been complaining about this for years. It’s horrible. It’s worst when the game is aired nationally, like on Fox. Apple-only games pretty consistently start about nine minutes late. National games are more 20+. I was hoping the switch to Apple would lessen this but apparently not.
I agree, I don’t like this either. That said, I do list the kickoff time when I write a match preview.
Runs into the box!!! Thank you!
Finally a well timed run
Thommy actually playing that right side. Not bad!
Let’s see how long this lead lasts!
Apparently getting Gadi back is kinda a big deal. On paper, this is not the worst lineup they’ve put out.
Pretty cool seeing Salloi build up that goal from the right just after reading the previous discussions with (and at) Sounders at Heart about how they should beware of Salloi and Russell switching sides.
Can SOMEONE ask them to keep the announcer mics higher than the crowd mics please!
I dunno, I almost never find announcers useful or enjoyable but crowd noise actually adds to the ambience. The current levels let me mostly tune out the announcers and enjoy the stadium atmosphere. I often watch in Spanish to get the same effect, with the double bonus of practicing my Spanish when I want to actually pay attention to what they’re saying.
But yes, apart from my personal preference, it’s a bad presentation. If you don’t want your announcers easily heard, don’t have them (wish that was an audio option).
Or at least a home or away option
Agree. I think what makes the EPL games so nice to watch is the commentators aren’t afraid to have stretches of “dead air” with just crowd noise and sounds of the game. Twellman is the worst and luckily we haven’t had him in a while.
This definitely looks like a different team in the first 15 minutes. This might not age well but hey ever the optimist. Davis is looking good
That’s a second yellow for Roldan. Thommy roasted him on the breakaway and it was just a straight takedown. Maybe “light contact,” but so was the yellow he got against Walter 2 minutes before with a huge exaggerated flop.
It was! I wonder if Thommy wouldve gone down and forced the refs hand if Roldan would’ve sent off.
He did go down but we kept possession I believe and that what Mo Edu was saying.
That’s a tough question though. Yeah SKC maintained possession but how differently would that have played out if he hadn’t been hauled down?
I can see not whistling immediately for advantage, but in my opinion the fact we happened to have another guy get to the ball first shouldn’t let someone off the hook for what is 90% of the time an auto yellow.
I’m reading this after recording my pod and I said the same thing. Just because it’s an “advantage” it doesn’t mean you can’t go back and give the yellow. It stopped a promising attack. And I think KC would take that stop in a promising attack, a whistle and a second yellow.
But just because it wasn’t given immediately, it should have been given when the play ended. I hate when refs are gutless on this. They sure haven’t been on second yellows to KC this year.
Apple broadcast ignoring the USOC by listing these teams’ next matches as next weekend fits the current league office narrative trying to undercut USOC.
Another good run! Who knew that those help you score goals?
Its amazing what well-timed runs in the box do.
wow
Alan!
Twilight Zone level stuff reading the thread over at Sounders At Heart.
“We really look disjointed and at odds with one another. Pretty clear we are missing the truly key pieces. “
“our offense is flat, lots of walking and aimless wandering around even when we have the ball”
“We look like the team without a win and that is utterly unacceptable and inexcusable”
Oh yeah, and even “Fuck Peter Vermes”
The amount of delusional hate for PV amongst other fans is always hilarious
Hey, that reminds me, enjoyed your TV appearance!
What about the boos from all of the fans in Seattle every time Melia touches the ball?
Right now, you’d think other fan bases would be glad that Vermes is on the SKC sideline…
I feel like the biggest impact is from not having Roger on the field. Davis also is absolutely keeping up with Chu. Pulido remembered where the goal is and Johnny definitely looked inward.
The runs also seem more fluid/creative and not programmed? Is that just me?
First half thoughts:
Davis is not giving Leo Chu anything at the moment. That’s a huge deal given how he terrorized us in the first match-up and how important this match is.
SKC looks like a TEAM. Discipline defensively, effort in tracking back, good runs, and ideas in the final third.
Remi is eating up space. He is snatching every single second ball and cutting out every threat.
Erik Thommy looking like the Thommy of last season.
I had the game on while cooking just for the heck of it, but I cannot believe that we’re actually winning right now–and off of two goals that are legitimately good! Thommy’s ball to Alan was incredible and Alan’s finishing touch is exactly what we’ve missed over the past year. No offense to Agada, but I don’t think he puts that one away. For me, the best play of the game is actually Walter’s run that took the ball off of Lodeiro’s foot in the box. He’s done well at the 6 this year, but we have constantly bemoaned the midfield’s inability to track runners that aren’t immediately in the play and that was such a heads up moment from him. I really hope we can hold this.
Also, that commercial with Illie made me so happy and sad all at the same time.
That’s a soft penalty. Yes, it’s a foul, but it’s a fluke foul. Not a great way to let them back in the game. When you’re done on the season like SKC, it seems like everything that can go against you, does.
Honestly, they were maybe a pinch lucky they didn’t decide it was a red card for hitting him in the face after he came up with a bloody nose. Unlucky that it was just in the box and Montero wasn’t going to do anything, but a flying elbow is a foul for sure.
Can we hold on?
Looks like that PVs plan, instead of pushing for another goal and ensuring the win…
Honestly WTH was Logan thinking with his hands up like that?!
The ghost of Ben Sweat past
#15 is in… oh boy
Can we see Tzionis on and Pulido off. Switch Daniel to the 9 and Tzionis at the LW
Welp nix that idea….
And if we’d made this move Alan wouldn’t be coming off injured
PV waits until he gets injured to take him off.
And now had Tzionis or ANYONE else with attacking ability johnny would have probably had an outlet and we’d have been three to one up.
I don’t like playing not to lose.
Honestly, I dont either, but I understand it in THIS match. Your on the road and Seattle has already gained momentum and if you run them the entire match you run the risk of them getting a second goal. No need to risk too many numbers forward when your already ahead and you don’t have a win.
I don’t agree. Yes pressing for the winner can open doors for a counter, but how many times have you seen a team collapse under the momentum as they play not to lose and give up the tying or winning goal for the other team. And also how many times have you seen a team press for the win and get the goal that kills of the game.
Well honestly, I think most often you see the team with numbers behind the ball and discipline in defense not concede too often. Especially if the opposing team has proven they can’t really break you down. What I see most often in the MLS is teams who push for goals late on and get beat on the counter. That happens almost weekly in the MLS. If this were a home game I would agree with you. But they were playing on the road against a first-place team. We already hadn’t proven to kill off any games let alone games against top teams. Why risk it?
I understand that but we haven’t proven to keep anyone out. Including Seattle, remember 4-1 at home? 15 goals against this season…
I actually didn’t mind Zusi on for Pulido and shifting to 442. Props to Vermes for making a real change, not a cosmetic one.
Doesn’t alter my overall opinion of Vermes, though.

How is THAT ONE not a yellow card
A third yellow on Roldan.
Roldan not getting a second yellow on that Russell foul is criminal! Thats a yellow every time!
I don’t know who else agrees with this but Jake has definitely earned more minutes
Absolutely
That’s a surprisingly good shot from Roger.
We just won a game? Off of well played goals and not random scrappy bounces? What is this?!
And solid defense? And the Royals won this afternoon? Let’s hope the Current can complete the hat trick.
Anyone else read PVs lips after the whistle? I don’t think he liked the ref much
Almost looked like “About fucking time” to me. Though maybe I’m projecting.
Thought he said effing a$$hole… He looked upset.
Those last 10 minutes the ref did everything he could to give Seattle one last shot, an extra minute, Roldan staying on, several other calls…
Much needed win. Loved what I saw from Thommy. He was dealing. They looked good today. Hopefully they build off of this.
That means keep him on the right side… That’s where he started last year when he came in… Leave him be. Everything changed in this game when we moved him to the left.
