Sporting KC
Vermes parting ways reactions
A pod was needed.

Sporting Kansas City made a surprise announcement Monday morning. It was surprising but not totally unexpected. Peter Vermes and Sporting KC officially parted ways. Vermes has been in charge since 2009, and the club’s core is intertwined with Vermes. This is a spot the club has not been in since Onalfo was fired.
The available Shades of Blue crew missed recording Sunday, but that allowed us to record our first reactions Monday night.
Segment 1
- What was our Initial reaction to Vermes and SKC parting ways? Shock? Surprise? Expected?
- Was the move too soon, too late or just the right time? For many it was too late.
- Was this a reaction to the Cauldron/South Stand, or has it been in the works for longer? Ownership has obviously thought about it before.
Segment 2
- Kerry Zavagnin was named as the interim coach. Should they let it ride for a while under KZ or move as quickly as possible to find the next coach?
- Is Zavagnin a candidate or a caretaker? Should he be a candidate? What are some new manager candidates?
- Should any former Sporting KC players be in the running or should they look for someone with no history in KC?
- If the interim coach is the same as the former coach, can there be a new coach bump?
Segment 3
- What is the legacy of Peter Vermes with SKC? Owners and many others were involved but Vermes was a key guiding force for the growth of soccer in Kansas City.
- PV in league play: 203-184-123 (WLD) all comps 251-218-139
