KS Astras Making Statement
Astras have a lot of reasons to be proud
Full disclosure: Mark Saxby brings his experience as a professional goalie with the Kansas City Comets and an up-close view of the Astras. Mark works with the Astras as one of their coaches and is understandably proud of their progress. Mark has written some Comets recaps for the site and wanted to also post about the Astras. We need to make it clear the potential conflict of interest. – Thad Bell
Through a season marked by pending adversity, the Kansas Astras organization and players have overcome the challenges to secure a potential playoff berth in their inaugural season. With three regular-season games remaining in their altered schedule, these Astras have proven something to the MASLW, the fans, and the world that they are here to stay in the soccer heartland of Kansas City.
Introductions may not be necessary in their impactful development of local women’s soccer, and female sports in general, taking over the country with a blaze of excitement. With the last-minute changes and home-field requirements being altered just prior to their inaugural 2025/26 season, the team banded together. They carried that energy into statement victories over their competitors in the Midwest region.
The Astras currently stand confidently in second place and holding high hopes for their first playoff berth in team history. The excitement is obvious throughout the organization, team camaraderie is elevated and sights are focused towards the MASLW Playoffs, which are hosted in Detroit, Michigan in March. First round matches will begin March 20th, semifinals follow on March 21st and the women’s final will be held at 2:00pm CST inside the Detroit City Fieldhouse on March 22nd.
The team has embraced the leaps and bounds of professional sports, sending two of their highly talented members to play overseas on 2 different continents. This adversity has aided additional players in stepping their competitive spirits into a higher gear, scoring relentless goals, adapting to the quick-paced indoor game, and embracing the resiliency while sending talent players like Emily Carrasco (Australia) and Keelan Terrell (France) to their honorable new clubs. Pipelines are being built for furthering development of these talented Astra players across oceans and borders, breaking through the international level of competition and opportunistic contract signings.

As these ladies sit in the opportunistic 7th place seat overall in league standings, head-to-head records, goal differential and tiebreakers will determine the final 2-3 playoff clinching spots nearing the end of the regular season. The weekly commute to Urbandale, Iowa at the SIG Sports Arena for all of this season’s KS Astras home matches has provided both the inclusive team bonding road trips and adversity the team needs to break through into this successful playoff run. The inspiring chant ringing throughout this KC soccer community is, “I believe that we will win!” May the odds be forever in favor of our local teams, players and organizations, sending them into greatness and success. With these 4 matches standing in the path of this determined franchise, we wish them all the best in their pursuits towards achieving the honor to hoist the championship trophy come March.
