How to get Free or Discounted MLS Season Pass

The $99.99 cost for a season of MLS Season Pass on Apple can be daunting for some. Thankfully, it can be had for free or cheaper.

There are about 40 percent of the games each week not behind the paywall, but if you want to catch every single game from a team you support, or the entire league, MLS Season Pass is your only option.

Plus, love it or hate it, the entirety of Leagues Cup with the Liga MX teams, is on Season Pass as well.

The $99.99 sticker price can bring shock to some, though it’s actually not bad compared to the cost of watching other sports leagues, including the NWSL. But why pay full price if you don’t have to?

Free You Say?

The simplest way to get it free is something most know by now, it’s included in your season tickets. If you are a season ticket member of any of the 30 teams in MLS, you’ll get free access sent to you from the team. Sporting KC fans have already reported getting theirs this year, so if you haven’t reach out to your ticket rep.

Another free option is available to qualified T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile customers. The mobile carrier announced they are bringing back the promotion after taking 2024 off. It’ll be available in the T-Life app as a part of the T-Mobile Tuesday promotion start on February 18th.

Is there a Free Trial?

Apple and MLS currently don’t offer a free trial through their service. Again, about 40 percent of all games are free every week though, so you can always get into the Apple TV app or go online and enjoy those games.

Something new this year is a partnership with Comcast. Xfinity customers will be able to sign up for MLS Season Pass through the Xfinity user interface. As a part of that, they are providing a free preview from February 22nd through March 2nd.

MLS is also partnering with DIRECTV, and members will be able to get MLS Season Pass on channels 480 through 495. Just like Comcast, that requires a subscription, but they too will offer a free trial from Feb. 22nd through Mar. 2nd.

At Least Save Some Money

If you don’t have T-Mobile and don’t have season tickets, you can still safe a few bucks.

If you are an Apple TV+ subscriber, you get a $20 discount and only have to pay $79.99 for a full season of MLS Season Pass. There is literally no reason, if you plan to buy the full season anyways, not to save the $20 (unless you don’t trust yourself to cancel the trial). You don’t have to pay the $9.99 monthly fee either.

There are numerous free trials or ways to get free trials that will unlock that $20 discount. Apple does a free 7-day trial, you can buy an Apple product and get Apple TV+ for three months and on and on. Even after you cancel your trial, as long as you bought Season Pass during the trial, you get the discount.

Bonus Tip: Family Sharing

I am not an Apple product user. No iPhone. No iPad. In 2023, when I setup MLS Season Pass, I did so through my own account and made myself primary. But because I didn’t do it on an Apple product, I wasn’t able to take advantage of a great feature: Apple Family Sharing.

If someone in your household can be the primary account holder that has an Apple device, like my For the Glory KC podcast co-host and wife, then you can share with up to five other family members. It’s silly that you can’t share without an Apple product, but just a heads up for the future. Especially if you share season tickets on one account with multiple people. This is a must to setup if one of you has an Apple product.
