Sporting KC signs free agent forward Calvin Harris
Former Colorado winger joins SKC
Sporting Kansas City announced that 25-year-old free agent forward Calvin Harris has signed a one-and-a-half-year MLS contract through June 2027 with a club option for the 2027-2028 season. Harris comes to Kansas City from the Colorado Rapids where he played since 2023. He was drafted by FC Cincinnati second overall in the 2021 draft on a Generation adidas contract.  Harris made 26 appearances for Cincinnati across all competitions before being traded to Colorado prior to the 2023 season.
Harris has scored 22 goals with 11 assists in his career as a professional. Most recently, he scored 5 goals and 4 assists in the 2025 season for the Rapids. He plays on the right wing primarily, but can also play left or down the center as well. Harris made 48 starts in 91 appearances for Colorado. Each season Harris has increased his scoring output and was the fourth-highest goal scorer and goals per 90 minutes played on the Rapids last season.

The newest addition to Sporting KC’s roster is a native of Middlesbrough, England, but will not require an international slot after receiving his green card in 2023. According to the MLS Players Association data, Harris made $152,000 in guaranteed compensation last season. It is very likely that he will receive more with Sporting KC as a free agent.
Harris is notable for his speed and will be an asset to Sporting KC as a winger in coach Raphael Wicky’s offense. Both Wicky and the President of Soccer Operations David Lee has expressed their preference for teams that can press and attack quickly. Harris seems to fit that description well. While Stephan Afrifa can also play either side, it is likely Shapi Suleymanov that Harris will be competing with for playing time if there are no additions to the forward line before the season. The two are very different players and will give the new SKC coach options in one position.
Sporting KC’s newest player joined the team today for preseason. Sporting Kansas City kicked off preseason training this week and is in West Palm Beach, Florida where they will train until Jan. 31 before heading to Palm Springs for the second segment of preseason. They will also play in the Coachella Valley Invitational in Palm Springs, California.
With the addition of Harris, Sporting Kansas City now has 18 players under contract for the 2026 season. More are expected.

It wasn’t the signing I was expecting to see first, but perhaps it’s jus the one that wrapped up first.
Seems like an affordable depth piece, which isn’t a bad thing.
I had it my mind the club would be signing fullbacks and or some 6s and 8s first.
It’s good to see some movement. Hopefully more to come.
I would agree with the above comment. Looks like a good piece of business, but it doesn’t garner excitement given the amount of holes we still have to fill and the lack of impact players on the roster.
If this is a rebuild year, I expected to see the build up happen from the back line.
Well….he’s a speedy winger who scored more goals than Shapi scored last year, so I may actually call him an upgrade.
