Kansas City has a new king of soccer
Is Andre Luiz the new Kansas City King of Soccer?
If you were to ask me to name Kansas City’s current sports royalty I’d tell you its Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Bobby Witt, and Temwa Chawinga. But there’s a new kid on scene: Andre Luiz.
On behalf of the Shades of Blue Soccer Show, Thad and David crowned Andre Luiz the new king of Kansas City soccer. After bagging his 7th goal in 7 games, the Brazilian designated player helped rescue a point at home for Sporting Kansas City against the Portland Timbers. The guys talked about their takeaways from the game and heaped lavish praise on Andre Luiz.
Montreal dropped points earlier in the weekend and Sporting was only able to close the gap by one point, but in a race to the bottom for the Wooden Spoon, every point matters.
In the second segment, Thad previewed the last three games for the KC Current who were on a bye week. The Current play two current playoff teams before finishing against an awful Louisville team. With only a four point lead over 9th place Seattle, this stretch of games is crucial and is the difference between a home playoff game and missing the playoffs completely.
Finally, the guys discuss a busy international window for both the USMNT and USWNT. The women’s national team lost a tough game against Spain with another on the horizon as a final tune up for World Cup qualifying in November. The USMNT made Jesse Marsch eat his words after beating Canada 1-0 and finishing the window 4-0.
