Juice Boxes and Post Game Stats: Luiz’s Quick Start
Sporting Kansas City picked up a 3-3 draw on Saturday night against the Portland Timbers. KC came from two goals down to come away with the draw, falling behind 2-0 and 3-1 before scoring two goals in four minutes from Justin Reynolds and Andre Luiz to get the draw. The draw keeps Kansas City at the bottom of MLS’s league standings, but closes the gap to 29th place, CF Montreal to just two points after Montreal allowed two goals in stoppage time to Toronto FC to lose 2-1 this weekend. Luiz, Sporting’s $18m Designated Player continues to impress, scoring two more goals in the draw. Kansas City will not travel to Nashville to take on the Supporters’ Shield leaders, Nashville SC in a midweek match up this coming week.
Here are the stats and milestones from Saturday’s action.
Andre Luiz became the fastest player in Sporting’s history to score 6 and 7 goals for KC in both league play and in all competitions, scoring both in his seventh game for the club. He beats the record set by Miklos Molnar, who scored his 6th goal in his 8th game and his 7th goal in his 9th game.
Justin Reynolds became the 152nd different goal scorer in league play for KC. He became the 156th scorer in MLS competitions and the 169th in all competitions.
The draw against Portland ends a four game losing streak against the Timbers. The draw though does extend KC’s winless run against the Timbers to 6 games. KC last defeated the Timbers May 28th, 2023 4-1.
