KC Current
Could Vlatko win NWSL Coach of the Year?
Vlatko’s arrival after an ugly season last year turned things around and the KC Current are flying high heading into the NWSL Playoffs.
Vlatko Andonovski arrived at the KC Current last year after an abysmal season and turned them into a serious title contender with two other trophies already in the bag. The Current finished the season just one point from second place, unbeaten in their last eight matches, on four straight wins, and flying high as we head into the playoffs. If the hot streak continues a few more games, Vlatko has a great shout for NWSL Coach of the Year.
The 48-year-old’s return to Kansas City after a stint with the US Women’s National Team has been a revelation. The Current more than doubled their point total from last season (26 to 55). However, Seb Hines over in Orlando is favored to take the honor this season.
The Orlando Pride may have lost two in a row at the end of the season, but Hines’ team was undefeated for the first 23 matches. Additionally, he too oversaw a pretty drastic turnaround from last season.
After a spicy meeting between the Pride and the Current earlier in the season, it feels like these two teams are on a collision course for the NWSL Final.
I say we wait until the final and let the results decide!
