Juice Boxes and Post Game Stats: More Unwanted Records
The 2026 MLS season can’t end soon enough for Sporting Kansas City as they roll towards the worst season in club history in their 2-1 loss to Austin FC on Saturday night. Kansas City conceded their 76th and 77th goals of the season in the loss, putting them one short of tying the league record of 78 set by the San Jose Earthquakes in 2024. The only question for the record falling, is just how high the new record is set by Sporting with three games left to go in the season, two of them on the road. That’s not the only record Kansas City is closing in on as they’re closing in on club records for futility as well. Here are the stats and milestones from Saturday.
Sporting Kansas City lost their 21st league game in regulation. Setting a new club record for regulation losses in a season. They can still tie the all time record of 24 set in 1999 (though 6 of those were in a shootout and would be considered draws today).
It was their 9th home loss in regulation, also setting a new club record. They can still tie the 1999 season for overall losses at 10 if they lose to FC Dallas next week.
The 2 goals conceded were the 33rd and 34th conceded by KC at home this year, setting a new club record. This broke the old record of 32 set in 2024 and 2025.
Stephen Afrifa scored his 3rd goal against Austin FC, tying him with Johnny Russell for the most against them in league play and in all competitions.
Afrifa scored his 10th goal in all competitions for KC. He’s the 48th player to reach that mark.
