Walter on the bench is a little surprising, but I wonder if it means that SKC are definitely playing on the front foot. But then, why not play Kinda? He’s one of the most progressive players on the team.
I think they want Kinda going against slightly more tired players.
I could see that. He has been really effective off the bench doing that. I just hope Gutierrez starts the game strong. That first half against Inter Miami was poor from him so this is a chance to make up for it.
Why is Gutierrez starting? He has consistently lost the ball under the high press. I’m betting he makes an error that leads to a STL goal.
My money on the cause of the first goal is Fontas getting burned, or Gutierrez having a bad giveaway and not running back on it
Probably because hes used to playing teams who aren’t interested in playing soccer and just want to hack and counter all game
I will say, I like Khiry as a vertical threat in this game. You know he will make runs and play physical. I have a feeling he will play a big role if we want to win this game.
So far he’s a tough watch, really miss JFR for this type of game
Yeah, he’s taking up good positions but just isnt aggressive. Jake Davis has been far more aggressive on the right than him.
So is part of STLFCCITYCLUB’s strategy to commit so many fouls that the ref can’t possibly call all of them?
Yes. It’s energy drink soccer. It’s Red Bull dna. NYRB, Leipzig, Salzburg. They all play this way
Oh my word Shelton, shoot!!!!!
Jake Davis just bodied Jackson. That was my play of the game and I doubt it will change
My goodness, who is tracking Jackson?? He is taking up such a dangerous spot in the middle and his movement has been key for STL.
Jackson and whomever is wearing the 10 shirt for acstlfcclubdefutbolathletico are the only guys playing soccer on their side
Markanich should have been called for a foul on Shelton there. Good on Jake for fouling him back
I think that should be a card on Adeniran all day. He made contact with Davis’ knee before he even got the ball, and he straight up cleared out Davis. Had Davis’ foot been planted, it could have serisouly injured him.
I would argue it was far worse than Russell’s challenge last week that got him sent off. He gets the man before the ball. And he comes in with far more force. He was always going to clear Davis out. Your point about a planted leg is spot on.
The sad thing is, Davis just is too tough. If he sells it or sells the headbutt minutes later, they have time to review them. But he shouldn’t have to roll around like an idiot for the refs to see what happened.
This ref is letting too much go unpunished… wow
Was that a headbutt to the back of Davis’ head?…
Yes it was.
Shouldn’t that technically be an automatic red? Villarreal was look straight at him when it happened and doesn’t call it, but….VAR…..come on. Doesn’t matter if it was with a lot of power or not, the intent was there and he was let off the hook.
But yeah, STL fans will say that the ref favors us…
That should literally be an automatic red
I would argue that and the earlier Adeniran challenge could both be reds. Minimum a yellow on the first challenge.
How can you not love Jake Davis? His aggression is pissing off some of these STL players.
We love Jake!
Seriously. He was one of our favorites his whole time at Swope (our = SPR chat-ers). I honestly didn’t think he would break out this soon OR at right back, but thinking back most of us loved his intangibles like drive and toughness, so it makes sense that he’d force his way out there one way or another. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s the prototype of a PV-player.
I have a special attachment to the SPR/II players. Hernandez is so buried it doesn’t seem like he’s going to get a chance. Duke is definitely gone after this year. I’m glad Davis is breaking through. Let’s hope he doesn’t get buried behind Zusi again, it’s time for a changing of the guard.
I’m really hopeful for some of these SKC II guys getting first team deals.
Alright, Walter at 60mins needs to happen. Probably Tzionis for Salloi too
Jake Davis MOTM
Kinda needs to be brought in. Gutierrez is just walking around, and we need that offensive threat. There’s absolutely no reason to not bring him on
Gutierrez leaves for Walter but for the life of me, I dont know what he brought to the match from the start. He won the ball a couple of times but didnt do much else in 60mins. Walter or Gadi Kinda should have started this match.
How is Walter the only guy defending three at the near post?
Bring on Kinda, my word. We have nothing to lose and he’s one of the few off the bench options we have that can make a difference.
There it went. One of STL’s subs draws the fouls for the first goal, then gets the 2nd.
Vermes. Out.
Fontas, really??? You cant compound one mistake with another. When is it ever okay to clear the ball into the middle of the box? That was so preventable.
He’s been awful all season.
He cannot come back next season. His mistakes this season have cost goals and more importantly, wins and points.
Guaranteed through 2024. Can buy him and Khiry out (at least can’t get the cap relief for both). Realistically they’ll probably get neither.
I think you just have to hope for a better starter at LCB.
Dude. Andreu. What even was that?
Oh yay, bring on Kinda with 13 to go down 2-0. Vermes is a joke of a manager.
I read that as 13 down with two minutes to go
Might as well completely shift focus to the Chiefs anyways
Fontas is just a such a liability, he cannot be a starter next season
He shouldn’t even be on the team the last 2 seasons
Pulido before re-signing: scoring goals
Pulido after: silence
We looked like shit at minute 55.
Too gassed to do anything.
Vermes out. So many players deserved chances to play and get completely ignored.
Well sporting have quit on this game and so have I
Game, Set, Match, Peter has to go
This team should not be missing the playoffs, let alone 2 years running. Or 3 times in 5 seasons. What other stats do you need?
Jesus, that was a beauty
Omg. An attacker that you know. Just stays up top and takes shots. Must be nice.
This is pathetic
Vermes looks clueless as SKC gets run off the field in the second half. Absolutely pathetic.
Should STL have been down 2 players in the first? Arguably. But we give up an easy set piece goal (again). Ndenbe gets worked by Klaus twice. Again. Fontas fucks up again.
Vermes doesn’t have it anymore. He’s got to go
This team is an abomination, and the buck stops with Vermes….where do we even go from here?
Oh look, a striker in the box means we actually fucking score. I’m sick of the “pulido drops back” narrative. That’s great, if he makes fucking runs in the box. But he doesn’t. He couldn’t take a defender on all night and still wasn’t in the box to be a finisher.
Ok, I’m focusing on one issue. But Jesus. Vermes, how can you not see that this plan isn’t working? How can you not adjust? How can you not play to be STL?
I almost just called to cancel my season tickets.
I know there is a lens on the defense with every loss, but they wouldn’t have such momentum if we actually carried an attacking threat and scored goals. If you put teams out early and kept fresh legs on when we needed then game dynamics would be completely different instead if relying on scrambling defenses and needing to be perfect for 20 plays in a row.
Four goals in 12 minutes? That is pure embarrassment. And it came with mistake after mistake after mistake. It’s hard not to lay so much of this at the feet of Vermes. The team was not set up to get goals in this match. Even worse we consistently see the same issues with this team: moving the ball too slowly, defensive breakdowns and mistakes, lack of threat in the attack.
This is my main frustration. If you have different players but the same problems every season, then the players are not the problem. PV has had a decade to recognize this and adjust accordingly. He doesn’t though. He tries, but when push comes to shove he goes right back to his bad habits.
