EA Sports Announces Sporting KC’s FC 25 Ratings
The new FC 25 ratings are out for Sporting Kansas City. How close do they match up to the real-life performances of the players?
Every year when the newest version of FIFA EA Sports FC comes out, a lot is made of the ratings given to the players. This year, with the release of EA Sports FC 25, or more commonly just called FC 25, it was no different. Social media teams around the world put out fantastic content and players are found holding up their player card with their ratings.
However, things hit a little different in Major League Soccer. Simply by being in MLS, some players ratings are reduced, versus if they were in Europe playing in a top tier league. So, every year when the ratings come out, it simply isn’t as exciting. Not to mention, it feels like EA aren’t paying attention to Sporting Kansas City, or many other teams in the world. As you can see in the chart below (at bottom of the page), it doesn’t necessarily feel representative of how players are actually playing.
This isn’t Sporting KC related, but EA has Temwa Chawinga rated at just 80 in pace! If she’s not a 99 in the women’s game, who is?! Pay attention EA!
Where do they get these numbers?
The largest jump, year-over-year from FC 24, rightfully belongs to Jake Davis. He came up six points but is still just a 66 overall. That puts him tied for 11th on the team with Tim Melia and Memo Rodriguez.
The highest rated player? Joaquin Fernandez, who hasn’t even stepped on the pitch and is probably benefiting from having been in Turkey and Spain for his career. Right behind him is a 3-way tie between Daniel Salloi, Alan Pulido and Johnny Russell, who are all having down years, but still the “best” players on this team.
William Agada is getting a massive snub down at a 63 overall, despite leading the team in scoring and being in the 99th percentile in non-penalty expected goals (npxG) in all of MLS.
Overall, Electronic Arts seems to value being a “starter” above almost anything else. Logan Ndenbe is rated six points worse than Tim Leibold. When they play, that hardly seems to be the case. Andreu Fontas is still the team’s highest rated CB (tied with Dany Rosero) despite playing very little as Robert Voloder has seemingly taken his spot (but is still just rated at a 61 overall).
Stephen Afrifa is also being snubbed hard with a 57 when he’s actually outperforming Salloi in the LW role when you look at their numbers. Afrifa has three goals and two assists in league play in just 643 minutes while Salloi has three goals and four assists in over triple the minutes played (2,002). Look no further than their fbref.com charts. It’s a small sample size, but the differences are stark.
With Sporting KC’s season effectively over (though they can play spoiler for a few teams), maybe you can play Fantasy Sporting Director/Manager/Chief Soccer Officer and start a Career Mode in FC 25 and rebuild the roster while we all wait for it to happen in real life.
