When the New York Red Bulls found an 89th minute equalizer on Saturday night, it brought Sporting KC’s total to 22 points dropped from winning positions this year. With just six games remaining, any hope for the MLS Cup Playoffs is virtually dead.

The parity in Major League Soccer often means four or five points can see a team jump several spots on the table. But Sporting KC find themselves buried far below the playoff line this year. In fact, had they held on to half of those 22 points, they would just barely be above the line in 9th place.

But it would lead to meaningful matches. It would have SKC set up for another late season run. Like last season, which culminated in one of the most memorable seasons in club history.

Incredibly, Sporting KC’s 22 dropped points doesn’t even top the rest of MLS. The last placed San Jose Earthquakes lead the way with 26. Additionally, both Portland Timbers and DC United have also dropped 22 points.

SKC were leading (at the bottom of?) MLS back in May, according to Tom Bogert.

Listen to this week’s Shade of Blue as we discuss the draw with the Red Bull, Alan Pulido’s first goal in 27 years, and Jake Davis fulfilling the Roger Espinoza prophecy.

Plus the KC Current get back on track with a 1-0 win. Will Temwa Chawinga win MVP of the NWSL?

The US Men’s National Team lost a disappointing match to Canada in front of a weak crowd at Children’s Mercy Park. Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly going to made official in the coming days.
