The Kansas City Current continue their road series with a cross-country trip of close to 3,000 miles to take on Seattle Reign FC.  Kansas City remains at the top of the NWSL standings and has been one of the most dominant teams this season, but last week served as a reminder of the league’s unpredictability.  With the upset, the North Carolina Courage won their first game of the season, a team that was sitting in last place on the table.  Now, with another tough road test ahead, the Current will be looking to bouce back to prove last weekend was a blip in an otherwise dominant campaign.

The Seattle Reign, who were NWSL finalists in 2023, took a hit in 2024 after losing several key national stars in free agency. But they’ve slowly started to find their footing again.  Siting in 7th with a 2-2-2 record, they’ve already picked up more than a third of their total points from all of last season. Former KC favorites Cassie Miller and Lynn Biyendolo (formally Williams) joined Seattle in the offseason via a trade from Gotham, while former Angel City defender Madison Curry signed in free agency. Adding to Seattle’s attack is Maddie Dahlien, a college signing, who scored the lone goal in the recent Cascadia Rivalry.

For the first time, Alana Cook and Laurel Ivory will suit up against their former club as members of the Kansas City Current. Both played in the most recent meeting between the two teams on June 9th, 2024, which took place at CPKC stadium, resulting in a 5-2 win for the home side.

Last week, the cycle continued while playing in North Carolina, a place where KC has historically struggled. Now the challenge shifts to Seattle, where the Current have yet to win a regular season match. With injuries lingering, will the Current be able to break yet another record?

The all time series betweeen the clubs stand even at 5-5-1.

Favorite SKC memory: Witnessing Erik Thommy's goal in LA during the 2024 U.S. Open Cup. There was hope, there was joy, and I may have cried. Favorite KC Current memory: Getting to enjoy opening day of CPKC stadium with my dad, who bought us season tickets to FCKC in their Swope Park days
