Three points back, three matches left

Sporting KC are running out of time to climb out of the cellar and avoid the Wooden Spoon. This week on Shades of Blue, we’re talking missed opportunities and miscues in a tough loss to Austin FC.

This past weekend was a chance for SKC to pick up points against the team just ahead of them at the bottom of the Western Conference. If this team really had found a new level, this was the match to prove it. They didn’t, and the 2-1 loss feels like a big blow to any remaining hope.

The revitalized attack has yet to translate to the bottom line. Andre Luiz has at least one goal contribution every single time he plays more than 45 minutes. There’s life and excitement to the matches now! But the results just have not been there.

Thankfully, Montreal continues to flounder and their advantage remains at just three points. SKC have just three matches to leapfrog the Canadians. Fortunately, the absurdly bad goal differential won’t come into play. If Montreal fail to win any of their last games, then one win for Sporting KC would put them level on points. The tiebreaker is total wins and SKC would have the advantage.

That means it’s possible only one win will be enough. But they may very well need multiple results out of the last three.

@ Minnesota United – OCT 28

VS FC Dallas – OCT 31

@ San Diego FC – NOV 7

The show also covers the KC Current’s 2-1 win over the Washington Spirit. The Current have slowly climbed the table all year and now sit in 4th place heading into the final matchday.

Plus, the UMKC Roos Men’s Soccer Team added another win to a fantastic season so far. KC is the #5 team in the nation and just secured back-to-back conference titles.
