KC Current
KC Current remain undefeated, winning 3-0 vs. Utah

After a week on the road and earning a 2-0 win at the Washington Spirit, the Kansas City Current (2-0-0) returned to CPKC Stadium to host Utah Royals FC (0-1-1). As one of the two undefeated teams (Orlando is the other), the Current looked to continue that unbeaten streak against a young but very determined Royals team.
Starting XI
Some rotation in the backline with Izzy Rodriguez at left back instead of Hailie Mace, who is working her way back to full 90 after an early season knee injury. Otherwise, the usual starters for the Current. On the bench and ready for her return was Bia Zaneratto, who missed the end of the 2024 season and the first two games of this season due to a foot injury.

No stopping the Current
Utah appeared to control the first 20 minutes. Possession-wise, they were in the 70s%. They had nice low and quick passes. Kate Del Fava (former KC player) was keeping Temwa Chawinga from scoring. Life was good for the Royals…until the poor defending began, and by the end of the first half, it was 3-0 Kansas City. Let’s take you through the goals.
After some passing sequences heading to the box, Michelle Cooper’s attempted pass to Chawinga was blocked by Del Fava. The ball bounced back to Cooper. By that point, Chawinga and Debinha were left unmarked. Chawinga waited for the pass, right in front of the goal and easily put it in, her third goal of the season in the 22nd minute and scoring in eight straight NWSL season games, tying her own record set last season.
KC DOESN'T GIVE UP 😤Michelle Cooper's second cross into the box falls perfectly to Temwa Chawinga to finish
Three minutes later, Chawinga nearly broke that record, but due to a hand ball by Cooper, the goal was overturned by VAR, and the game continued at 1-0. At the 37th minute, it was a Chawinga-Cooper connection again that led to the second goal. Cooper was left unmarked by the Utah backline. This time, the roles reversed with Chawinga assisting Cooper’s goal, her second of the season. It would be the first time in Cooper’s NWSL career that she scored and assisted in a game.
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, MICHELLE COOPER FINDS BACK OF THE NET WITH EASE 😮💨
The party continued as the clock neared halftime with Debinha taking advantage of a loose ball in the box that bounced her way after a Del Fava attempt to block a pass. This was Debinha’s 49th goal of her NWSL career and second of the season. Debinha is one goal away from 50 NWSL career goals, a milestone only seven players in NWSL history have reached (Lynn Williams, Sam Kerr, Christine Sinclair, Alex Morgan, Ashley Hatch, Jess McDonald, and Megan Rapinoe).
BOOP, IT'S A GOAL!Debinha slots it home for KC's THIRD goal in the first half
The second half was a slower game, with plenty of fouls as both teams reached 10 each. Utah would be the team with two yellow cards by the end of the game, and Kansas City went on to win 3-0, with an xG of 3.05 to .17 and keeping the Royals to three shots on goal and zero chances.
Oh, and Bia returned in the 72nd minute, making her first appearance in 175 days.
Welcome back to the pitch, Bia Zaneratto 🫶
It was another impressive win for the Current. KC is now unbeaten at home in 13 consecutive matches in all competitions. The Current have also now scored three goals in the first half seven times in the club’s history. The NWSL heads to an international break up next, with no games scheduled next weekend.
