Sporting KC May have Started to Right the Ship
Sporting KC have an exciting comeback against Minnesota United FC, the KC Current kick off their season and the US Open Cup.
For the Glory KC is back with the 123rd episode of the show!
Sporting Kansas City came back to life on Saturday night. When it looked like they were dead and destined to extend their 10-game losing streak, they clawed back for a 3-3 draw against Minnesota United. A draw isn’t a win, but it’s a step in the right direction. That first point of 2025 also keeps them out of the basement of the league (on goal differential, but it counts).
Sheena and I work through our thoughts from the game. We talk about John Pulskamp’s performance (and awful new scar).
Pulskamp with a new battle scar. Also knocked his retainer behind his teeth loose! #SportingKC

We also talk about the performance of Robert Voloder, Daniel Salloi being a spark (and giving the team wings), Memo Rodriguez, Dejan Joveljic’s stunning goal and of course all the bad that led to Minnesota being up 3-0 in the first place. Overall, let’s hope this is some positive momentum for Sporting KC as they host LAFC next week.
And let’s hear it for Kansas City weather. Wait five minutes, right? Sleet. Snow. An Orange ball. Wild times.
The reason for the orange ball, even though it's not sticking to the field.#SportingKC

In the SKC round-up, we talk about more signings coming to Sporting KC, Dany Rosero’s injury situation, Ian James getting an important international call-up and Memo expecting his second child.
Finally, the KC Current do what they do and play beautiful soccer to start the 2025 season. In a single game, they have more points than Sporting KC and it felt like more great chances created. From the glorious goal and hair of Temwa Chawinga, to the golazo of Michelle Cooper and ‘the best version’ of Debinha, the team showed up at Saturday’s opener against the Portland Thorns.
Also, we have KC Current injury updates for Bia, Gabby Robinson, Alex Pfeiffer, Regan Steigleder and Mallory Weber’s situation with the team. Plus, the team made a new signing.
In the Digital Crawl, we touch on a few more topics, including:
- SKC II vs. Des Moines Menace
- Felipe Hernandez’s return
- Tony Meola
- AD Franch’s new team
- And an NWSL rebrand in Boston
Here is a rundown of topics (and approximate start times):

I don’t know if this is a step to righting the ship or a blip, but I was in the stadium and it was a blast to see. Crowd was light and had gotten lighter with the snow and the 3-0 deficit. And all the problems were on display digging that 3 goal hole, but the 12 great minutes got the crowd involved and opened up a tiny shred of belief.
We had started the day at the Current game, so we were joking about just wanting one goal so we could claim a KC aggregate win.
I hope it’s not a blip, but it’s a fair point. 0.4 xG turning into three actual goals isn’t sustainable. I’m just hoping they gain confidence + chemistry keeps forming.
After the their third goal I sat down in the cauldron. Everyone in my section had. And then after one goal we stood up and cheered and then sat back down. After the second goal we stayed on our feet. It doesn’t take much to keep fans in it. ‘All we are saying is give us a goal’
There were seats available down there. At one point I contemplated seeing if it would be possible to sneak down, but at 3-0 in the snow, I was really comfy under my stadium blanket. Maybe I should have tried.
We had a handful of young Minny fans just in front of us though. To see them go from euphoric to silent was fun. Truly felt like a 1-1 SKC win by the end.
Hey, cool photo of Pulskamp there by Thad. This makes me think of all the awesome photos I’ve seen where I just scroll past the photo credit!
If they are on this site, it’s almost all Thad. We have a few others, but mostly him. And thank goodness because you can see the other former SB Nation sites that don’t have photos, and it just doesn’t look as good.
Thank you! Very much so!
