KC Current signs Angolan forward Lacho
Angolan attacker adds new look on the forward line

The Kansas City Current announced the signing of Angolan international attacker Flora Marta Lacho to a two-year contract ahead of the 2025 season. Lacho is the first Angolan international in the National Women’s Soccer League. Lacho is a 25-year-old forward that most recently played for TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Head coach and sporting director Vlatko Andonovski told reporters, “Lacho is a player that we signed that we’re excited to have on the team. I think that she is someone that will take just a little bit of time to get to her best game, but so far, she’s been training with us for a few weeks and has done very well.”
When asked to describe her play, Andonovski replied, “She’s a very interesting type of forward. I don’t think we have a forward like that on the squad. She’s very good in very tight areas, I would say if I had to pick a player like that now, it would be Deb. Just tight and tricky in tight spaces, has an ability to eliminate players and combine with her teammates but also brings some interesting intensity defending.”
She enjoyed an impressive 2024 season for her club, helping TP Mazembe win its first continental title as the club won the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League. Across TP Mazembe’s five matches in the competition, Lacho was named Woman of the Match on three separate occasions. Lacho was named to the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League Best XI. She was also named to the best XI from group stage play. She scored two goals and recorded two assists in the competition. Flora Marta was also nominated for the 2024 CAF Interclub Player of the Year.
“We are very excited to bring Flora Marta to Kansas City as her success last season at the club level in Africa was impressive to follow,” said Current general manager Caitlin Carducci via press release. “We look forward to seeing how she can make an impact on the pitch and add competition to our roster in 2025.”
“What led me to make this decision were the goals the team has, and I am enthusiastic about helping the team achieve those goals,” said Lacho via press release. “I feel proud to be in this great club, and I intend to work hard so I can help the team accomplish all of its goals!”
