Sporting Kansas City has announced the acquisition of MLS veteran defender Andrew Brody.

The 29-year-old joined the Real Salt Lake Development Academy at sixteen, played college soccer at the University of Louisville, and then started his professional career with Real Salt Lake’s second team, Real Monarchs, for the 2016 season. He was loaned out in 2019 for a short stint in the Austrian Regionalliga league, and a month after his return, he signed with Real Salt Lake’s first team as a homegrown player.

Brody was an integral part of Real Salt Lake’s defense over the last four years, starting in 93 of the 112 matches he appeared in, playing at both the right and left back sides. In 2021, he started every playoff game during RSL’s run to the 2021 MLS Western Conference Final.

He saw his career high in 2022 with 2 goals and 6 assists, earning multiple teams of the matchday. His strong performances carried into 2023, gaining further recognition, and played a key role in RSL’s best U.S. Open Cup run, which ended in the semifinals.

Brody’s signing comes two days after he was waived from Real Salt Lake.

Yay! Jake to the midfield!!!

ar_jhawk

Yay! Now who comes in to move Salloi to the midbench? That’s 26 – how many can they have?

KCOutsider

They already have Agada and Afrifa, if they have the guts to bench Salloi.

Joe Pacheco

Sallio needs to be done for sporting!!

ar_jhawk

There’s the rub! He’s our #10 after all.

Chad Smith

I haven’t seen anything that tells me Agada can play on the wing. Afrifa definitely.

Curious about the Salloi hate. He wasn’t the worst player on the pitch last night.

he duffed a good chance, but the two most dangerous runs of the night came from him. Fotmob didn’t have him rated as our worst player.

what is it that has drawn such ire?

The last few seasons – he’s been very “irrelevant”

He isn’t fast, he doesn’t have quick feet, he tried the same couple step overs or direct cuts inside over and over, his off the ball positioning very lacking and doesn’t contribute to an offensive shape, and frankly, he just isn’t skilled enough to warrant keeping him out there.
Nothing against him, but he’s just not that good.

We’ve seen his ceiling, and it isn’t anything exciting or worth giving him an endless pass to the starting lineup for. We won’t be able to grow or evolve offensively if our right wing isn’t improved

IMO he just looks defeated. It may do him well to remove the “10” number to help relieve the pressure. He loves the club and that is a huge asset. But I wonder if he cant handle the pressure of what “10” means. It is almost like a mythical beast that either you can control or cant. Either way is not bad.

It seems these last 2 season people have been able to defend against him with much easy. That is always super defeating as a player too. Hopefully with the new signings things will turn for him.

Manu, the other night against Miami, looked like a good play maker. So hopefully this helps kickstart Dan “The Mustache Man” Salloi’s career again.

KCOutsider

He doesn’t have to be the “worst” player to be an ongoing disappointment for the last few years.

He’s like several other players (e.g., Pulido, Russell) where I can still remember his peak but he hasn’t lived up to it for years. And unlike those two, he’s young enough that the falloff can’t just be chalked up to “best years behind him”; he OUGHT to be improving, not regressing.

Futmob rated Salloi at 5.9. Joveljic at 5.8 and Pulskamp at 5.6. So Salloi was indeed the 3rd worst rated player (out of 18 total players) on the team for his performance vs Miami. I’d argue that Joveljic had more moments of almost than any other attacker with very good runs and attempts at passes that just didn’t come off. I would not rate him so low personally. I know nothing about keepers but it seems like only allowing 1 goal vs an offense like Miami is a decent job.

Salloi didn’t make great runs, didn’t look before crossing (kinda like Martins used to do) and had the ball taken more often than not. I wouldn’t mind any of these things if he had his finishing boots on still. But he has been unable to regularly finish for over a year. All that and he is making 1.3 million a year. If you earn that kind of money, you simply need to produce or the team should move on.

My question for you, can Thommy and Salloi produce the service that Joveljic needs to be a prolific goal scorer? We know Manu is not Puig and Salloi is not even close to Pec. Thommy and Paintsil is the closest comparison. To maximize Joveljic, the RW needs to create some…Salloi has proven over the last 2 years to not have that ability.

16 vs 18…ha ha, counting is hard!

I think some have said it already, but for me it’s the fact that he’s proven to be streaky and he’s on too high of a contract for that. Admittedly, he had the best season of his life prior to signing that, but he hasn’t gotten anywhere near that.

I still really like Salloi, I just think that I’m more often disappointed than excited by his play. It’s not like he lost the skill to score from the left, but he’s certainly lost his confidence in doing so. He just feels stuck to me, which is such a bummer because of the potential he had as a younger player. I hope this season is a turn around for him, but it’s hard for me to believe that he would continue to play that well given his streakiness.

jdkus11

This quickly became more about Salloi rather than Brody haha. BUT I am very excited to have an actual right back so that Jake can play where he should be. I wasn’t a big fan of Brody’s when he was at RSL, but that means that other people can hate him now while he plays for us.

Chad Smith

The possibility that it allows Davis into the midfield is huge. The team had no ball winner on Wednesday. I get they were being defensive, and they had no options because Shelton was hurt, and Davis had to play RB. Davis balled out in his weaker position. Get him into the middle and let him run some guys over!
