New Sporting KC Kit Numbers Unveiled
When you look around the field, it’s always good to be able to identify guys. Sporting Kansas City provided some help today.
It’s not exactly the news fans are looking for with just 15 days to go until the first kick of the season, but Sporting Kansas City announced new jersey numbers for existing players and the new roster additions on Friday.

It’s not groundbreaking stuff, but it is nice to know what number goes to what players. Particularly for guys you don’t know or guys popping up with new numbers. Manu Garcia, Jake Davis, Stephen Afrifa and Cielo Tschantret* all changed their numbers from last season.
*Cielo was on SKC II, but still.
And despite the lack of roster building, the team does have new additions who will certainly be getting minutes, and you need to identify them. Potentially as early as tomorrow, for the next preseason game against Minnesota United. The game will be live streamed at 3:30 PM CST. If preseason isn’t your thing, the first real game will be on February 21st against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Full List of New and Old Numbers

Numbers in soccer often mean something. Davis’ new number, #8, is the box-to-box midfielder number. A position Davis actually plays. Garcia’s #6 is typically reserved for a defensive midfielder. Then again, Daniel Salloi is wearing #10 again, which is definitely the attacking midfielder number.
Calvin Harris’ #11 is often reserved for a starting winger. Maybe those depth chart predictions have some weight.
If you Thought this was a Kit Release Article…
Sorry about that. Nothing official yet. That said, there was a leak of a potential new kit a couple weeks back. The official unveiling of the new Sporting KC secondary kit should come in the coming weeks, according to CEO and President Jake Reid. Not to mention, they have to unveil it before the season starts.
What do y'all think. Is this @Footy_Headlines recreation of a #SportingKC kit legit? pic.twitter.com/uUE4Ndsctd

With the size of the squad, they are saving money on the numbers they have to buy…
It’d be the funniest thing if they just ran them out sequentially from 1 up. Like they’re buying mailbox numbers at the hardware store and got a “1” bulk pack.
