Sporting KC’s Weird Week of a Kit Leak, Lewendowski Rumors and more
The only thing exciting about Sporting KC lately are the rumors. A new kit? Robert Lewendowski?!?!? And somehow other stuff happened.
For the Glory KC is back with the 164th episode of the show!
Trigger warning, we get mildly political in the opening three minutes. Skip ahead or stop listening if it’s too much for you. Time stamps, as always, towards the bottom of these show notes.
Sporting Kansas City had almost nothing officially happen this week. That said, unofficially, there was still a lot going on. First, the rumor from Marca.com is that Robert Lewendowski, one of the greatest strikers in the world, may have interest from Sporting KC. Sure, the story says that the Chicago Fire are in the lead (and the article uses a Fire II graphic in error), but it is still something at least worth talking about. Along with the Fire and SKC, LAFC are mentioned as a possible destination.
With new owner Peter Mallouk, all things are possible. That said, this one seems unlikely.
Sheena and I break down that rumor, the ongoing Cesar Inga rumors (which appears to finally be dead), the preseason loss to the Fire, and the actual news of a new coaching staff for Sporting KC. But we have to discuss the rumored Footy Headlines kit leak from Sporting KC for their new secondary jersey.
It says, “recreated” right on the image, but is it a recreation of a real leak? It does have a variation on the argyle/diamond thing that SKC have been doing. Also, Sporting KC updated their profile pic to neon right after the leak and posted this little video.
This may not be the exact kit, but I bet it’s pretty close and I like the bold choice. It’s a secondary kit, have fun with it! Before we finish with the Sporting KC news, Sheena does a bio of SKC’s newest signing, Calvin Harris.
The KC Current didn’t have much this week, but they did have all four of their USWNT players start in the 6-0 win over Paraguay and announced a couple more preseason games:
- Sat. JAN 31 – Denver Summit
- Sat. FEB 7 – Angel City FC
In the Digital Crawl, we hit on a few more topics, including:
- Four countries doing their basecamp in KC: Argentina, Netherlands, England and Algeria
- MLS rule changes
- Trinity Rodman’s record deal to stay in the NWSL
- A weird LA Galaxy/St. Louis City trade rumor
Here is a rundown of topics and start times:
- Sporting KC rumors and a coaching staff announcement – 7:42
- KC Current update – 50:47
- Digital Crawl – 56:19

I love SKC but there is no way if I was RL that I would come here with the current roster situation!!!!
Appreciate the opening, have to keep some joy when times are this dark
I hope the Lewandowski rumor stays a rumor. SKC isn’t an aging European striker away from a return to a winning tradition.
Please, no retired European players.
The Jersey colors are great, but the pattern gets funky on the sleeves. It just feels like Sporting is constantly on the cusp of having a cool Jersey, but then they have to stick with some silly theme they came up with and it ruins it.
There is a great reason why politics are banned by fifa. Sports unite people, politics divide. You want to support left wing politics, great do a podcast and see who listens. I think this was disgusting rhetoric. You abused your platform and alienated listeners.
I just come here to talk about the team past, present, and future. Let’s talk politics though. Crossing the border illegally is a federal crime. The next crime is fraud because you can’t work, you’re illegal. Blocking and attacking federal agents is a federal crime. It’s disgusting how people in Minnesota are acting. It’s orchestrated, paid protesting. The fraud from the Minnesota government is unreal. They’re doing anything they can to stay out of jail.
We change things with voting in America. Attacking federal officers isn’t civil disobedience, it’s felony behavior. FAFO
Done with your liberal cast. May sporting find their way back to winning and a non political entity take over the sports talk for the team.
I’ll stick with what I said on the podcast.
If this milquetoast takes at the front of the podcast lost you, then I think you’ve got fairly thin skin.
I tried to stay well informed. I’d say I’m center left for sure, but I try to be reasonable and each side is flawed. You won’t find me blindly defending Democrats, but I definitely vote for them on a regular basis.
But dragging people out of their home is not what the current administration promised. They said they were getting the worst of the worst deported. It’s plain to see they are trying to hit a quota and are being fast and loose with the rules, often arresting citizens by mistake and obviously committing some unnecessarily violent acts in the process. Renee Goode wasn’t trying to hurt anyone, but maybe it’s plausible the officer felt threatened (this feels like a reach, but I’m trying to be reasonable). But what happened to Alex Pretti… I don’t know how you call it anything but murder. He’s legally carrying a gun but never reaches for it. He’s holding his phone the whole time and recording, so if they suddenly thought it was a gun they are being reckless at best. I try not to get stuck in my bubble too much, but your response is that of someone who lives in a bubble.
The fact that you lead with FIFA, who gave a peace prize to the President who has been anything but peaceful lately, is your example of politics being “banned” is funny. FIFA plays politics all the time.
Sorry if the under 3 minutes we talked about the chaos in the world lost you but speak to people “on the other side.” I consistently have hard conversations, often at my work (risky, I know, but my company stands behind their call to bring our true selves to work). Conversations often end with, “Chad, if more liberals were like you, I think it would be a better place.” To which I often reply, “how many liberals are you talking to?” Embarrassingly, I’m often the only one they have to admit. I won’t pretend I get it all right. The internet and algorithms make it easy to hear only what you want to hear. I’m definitely guilty of that sometimes. But I’m trying. I hope you try too GV dude (or anyone else that read this semi-ranty response).
