KC Current
Keeping Current: Talking about the roster and more
Lots of Current news and roster updates
Thad Bell from the Kansas City Soccer Journal is joined by Daniel Sperry from the KC Star for a new episode of Keeping Current with Kansas City. The Current released their preseason roster and we break down line by line who is in camp, new signings, and who might make the roster, and where. There are some potential, or we could say probable, and almost certain signings. We also look at the potential for those who may not be with the team this year.
In camp a dual national, a returning American, and some, but not all draft picks.
After the roster talk, Daniel and Thad discussed the problem with the front office’s communication with players regarding trades. Is it as bad as fans think? Is it getting better?
We discuss.

Great discussion, including regarding NWSL trades. One piece that I want to add in (and has been mentioned in various forums before) is that NWSL salaries compare poorly to any other top-flight US sports league. This is relevant because a player getting traded (sometimes repeatedly) in this league can be more jarring simply because she doesn’t have the financial cushion to ease that transition. If (when!!) the league is able to offer better salaries, there will be less sympathy for players potentially complaining about being uprooted. For now, though, most of us who aren’t millionaires would struggle if our employers suddenly told us we have to move to Houston or Salt Lake City.
That is a good point Xander. There are requirements in the CBA on what players need to be provided when traded and Sperry will be including some of that in a future article so I wanted to let him use that info for his article. Not saying it levels it out but will be good info for future debate.
