Hit or miss? A deep dive into foreign player signings at Sporting KC
With the departure of Alan Pulido, we’re assessing the success & failures of Sporting KC’s foreign players over the last decade.
After Alan Pulido’s transfer to Chivas, his spiritual home, Shades of Blue is assessing the successes and failures of foreign player signings at Sporting KC over the last decade. Who was a hit? Who was a miss? We go back to 2014 and bring up some names you haven’t heard in years.
The MIKE STAT this episode is eye opening. In his five years in Kansas City, the most expensive player in club history appeared in just 58% of matches.
108 of #SportingKC's 185 games across all competitions during his 5 seasons in KC. Injuries obviously played a BIG role in that, but 58% of games over 5 years for your highest paid player in club history just isn't good.
But where does Pulido stack up against the rest of the foreign player signings going back to 2014? Join us as we reminisce with names like Johan Croizet, Jordi Quintilla, Felipe Gutierrez, and Krisztián Németh.
As Sporting KC embarks on The Rebuild, does their track record of bringing in players from overseas inspire any confidence that the club can return to it’s former glory?

I wish you all would go back to writing more articles than posting podcasts. Easier to sit on the couch and read a short article than it is to have to put on ear buds or go into another room because my partner doesn’t want to hear it while she’s watching tv or something similar.
I can vouch for Cody, I heard the music too. And personally, I’m enjoying the podcasts; they give me something to listen to while doing chores and gives some release for the sorry state we’re in right now
I can also hear the background noise, more podcasts please.
