A Sporting KC Rumor and What is Happening with the KC Current
We almost have Sporting KC news and there is a ton of (questionable) KC Current news to discuss on this week’s episode.
For the Glory KC is back with the 159th episode of the show and the final episode of season four unless we need an emergency new coach podcast this week!
Sporting Kansas City had another quiet week. We try not to rehash the silence (though it’s unavoidable to a certain extent) but instead focus on the one rumor that trickled out. Sporting KC were tied to Albanian midfielder Juljan Shehu. If you want some complaining about the lack of a coach or player signings, check out last week’s episode since nothing changed. Something has to happen this week, right? Preseason is in 13 days.
The KC Current got most of the attention for the week and a lot of it for some bad reasons. First, the Current are hiring Chris Armas as their next coach. Sheena and I are underwhelmed. Maybe he’ll prove everyone wrong.
The other Kansas City Current news is around the stunning departure of 18-year-old Alex Pfeiffer. We get into our feelings about it, her teammate’s feelings, her comments and her family’s comments. And a bit of conspiracy theory corner as well.
In more positive news, the KC Current proved teams can work during the week of Christmas as they added two more players in Meila Brewer and Gianna Paul.

Basically, her mom doesn’t sound like it’s “mutual.” Nor did Alex’s Instagram (sorry!) post.
The sole reason I have social media is for soccer (and to see what my wife posts on Facebook about us/me). Sheena once posted me drunk singing the National Anthem and my co-workers let me know the next Monday. Can’t a guy just get drunk and be patriotic? 🙂
Well, if they let her go there has to be a reason. Maybe it was signing “over” her, but as young and talented as she is, that doesn’t seem likely.
Well, there’s a Reddit thread (grain of salt) that seems to think the Current will use the new HIP money (which hasn’t exactly been approved) to retain Bia/get Macario and that cuts into potential Pfeiffer playing time, which Alex’s helicopter mother was trying to get guaranteed. However, Pfeiffer’s a winger, not a 9, so…who knows?
Okay, you forced me to break down and listen to the podcast (and peruse Reddit). Like the podcast format, BTW. As far as what the Current are doing, maybe, one day, we’ll know more is the best you can really say.
There was that point a couple of years ago when they were making moves without any input from players and players were complaining about finding out they were traded on Twitter and such. Then it was kind of like, what the hell are the Current doing?. Then the stadium opened, Vlatko was hired and we had 2 amazing years. I guess we can only wait and see.
Two cents – I can’t imagine the Mary Long Conspiracy has any legs.

Wait, what? Doing what? Fighting with Alex Pfeiffer?
That’s a roster spot while she is on IR, right? Technically, Cook and DiBernardo don’t count while they are out.
Weirder and weirder. What was Kate Pfeiffer doing yesterday and can she prove it?
The rumor is it happened at the U20 USWNT call-up. And I keep forgetting Cook is on SEI so that’s another roster spot. Though you don’t want too many spots taken by players likely to return in 2026 either, so that’s a balance.
But I’d be stunned if Long doesn’t miss the whole year.
